Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 8) {اِنَّاۤاَرْسَلْنٰكَشَاهِدًاوَّمُبَشِّرًاوَّنَذِيْرًا:} From the beginning of the surah up to this point, there is mention of glad tidings and promises of victory and help, forgiveness, expiation of sins, and entry into Paradise for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the believers, along with warnings of punishment, wrath, curse, and entry into Hell for the hypocrites and disbelievers. Now, from here, the details of the various aspects of this clear victory begin, and as a prelude, the status and rank of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are mentioned, so that the Muslims may recognize it and not show any hesitation in obeying and sacrificing for him (peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, it is said that We have sent you as a witness to the truth before the people in this world, to convey the truth to all people, and as a witness in the Hereafter that the message of truth was conveyed to them, as a bringer of glad tidings to the obedient, and as a warner to the disobedient of Allah’s punishment. At this point, the main purpose is the glad tidings of victory and related matters, so in praise of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), only three words {’’ شَاهِدًا ‘‘، ’’ مُبَشِّرًا ‘‘ } and {’’ نَذِيْرًا ‘‘} are mentioned, whereas in Surah Al-Ahzab, the purpose is to clear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the slander raised by the hypocrites regarding his marriage to Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), the divorced wife of his adopted son Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), and other matters. Therefore, there in Surah Al-Ahzab (46), more praise of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is mentioned, and along with these three attributes, {’’ وَدَاعِيًااِلَىاللّٰهِبِاِذْنِهٖوَسِرَاجًامُّنِيْرًا ‘‘} (and a caller to Allah by His permission and an illuminating lamp) is also mentioned. (Ibn Ashur) For the explanation of {’’ شَاهِدًا ‘‘}, see also Surah Al-Ahzab (45), Al-Baqarah (143), and Surah An-Nisa (41).
