Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 23) ➊ { قَالَ اِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ:} In response to their insolent demand, Hud (peace be upon him) did not express any bitterness, but rather tried to explain further to them. Thus he said, the knowledge of punishment is only with Allah Almighty, He alone has authority over it, He alone knows whether the punishment will come upon you in this world or in the Hereafter, and He alone knows how long you will be given respite. I neither have the authority to bring punishment upon you whenever I wish, nor do I have knowledge of its timing.

{ وَ اُبَلِّغُكُمْ مَّاۤ اُرْسِلْتُ بِهٖ:} My duty is only to convey the message to you with which I have been sent, as He said: « فَاِنْ اَعْرَضُوْا فَمَاۤ اَرْسَلْنٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيْظًا اِنْ عَلَيْكَ اِلَّا الْبَلٰغُ » [ الشورٰی : ۴۸ ] "Then if they turn away, We have not sent you as a guardian over them; your duty is only to convey (the message)."

{ وَ لٰكِنِّيْۤ اَرٰىكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُوْنَ:} "Jahl" means both stubbornness and ignorance. If the first meaning is taken, then acting foolishly would mean that, firstly, you are insisting on disbelief, asking for punishment instead of accepting good advice, and secondly, you are demanding something from me that is not within my authority. And if this "jahl" is taken in contrast to knowledge, then it means that you do not even know what Allah Almighty's punishment is, nor how close it has come to you, nor do you know that messengers are sent to convey the message; bringing punishment is not within their authority.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

23. 1. That is, when will the punishment come, or will it not come in this world but rather you will be punished in the Hereafter—knowledge of this is only with Allah. He alone decides according to His will. My duty is only to convey the message.

23. 2. That, on one hand, you are insisting on disbelief. On the other hand, you are demanding something from me which is not within my power.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

23. Hud said, "Knowledge of that is only with Allah. I am conveying to you the message with which I have been sent, but I see that you are an ignorant people." [36]

Drawing the Wrong Conclusion from Something is Also Ignorance, and the Ignorance of the People of Hud:

Their foolishness and ignorance were that they drew the opposite conclusion from what Hud (علیہ السلام) wanted to explain to them. Sayyiduna Hud (علیہ السلام) had explained to them that in this universe, no one besides Allah has any authority to exercise control in any way whatsoever. Not even myself. I am merely a messenger delivering Allah’s message and warning you of your evil end. But in response, they said, “Bring upon us the punishment you threaten us with.” Whereas Hud (علیہ السلام) never claimed that if you deny, I can bring punishment upon you, nor did he claim to have such authority. And their second foolishness was that they would not accept good advice, but were hasty in demanding punishment.
