Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 67) ➊ {اَلْاَخِلَّآءُيَوْمَىِٕذٍۭبَعْضُهُمْلِبَعْضٍعَدُوٌّ:} This is a brief description of the terror of the painful punishment of that Day. The specific mention of all close friends, except for the righteous, becoming enemies of one another on that Day is because the polytheists, in the world, had united in enmity against the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) due to their mutual friendship, and it was because of their alliance that they remained firm upon polytheism. This very friendship will turn into enmity on the Day of Resurrection, and each person will consider the other as the cause of his own ruin and will say: « يٰوَيْلَتٰىلَيْتَنِيْلَمْاَتَّخِذْفُلَانًاخَلِيْلًا »[ الفرقان : ۲۸ ] "Oh, woe to me! Would that I had not taken so-and-so as an intimate friend." Just as Allah Almighty has quoted the address of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to his people: «وَقَالَاِنَّمَااتَّخَذْتُمْمِّنْدُوْنِاللّٰهِاَوْثَانًامَّوَدَّةَبَيْنِكُمْفِيالْحَيٰوةِالدُّنْيَاثُمَّيَوْمَالْقِيٰمَةِيَكْفُرُبَعْضُكُمْبِبَعْضٍوَّيَلْعَنُبَعْضُكُمْبَعْضًاوَّمَاْوٰىكُمُالنَّارُوَمَالَكُمْمِّنْنّٰصِرِيْنَ »[ العنکبوت : ۲۵ ] "And he said, 'The truth is that you have taken idols instead of Allah, only because of mutual friendship in the life of this world. Then on the Day of Resurrection, some of you will deny others, and some of you will curse others, and your abode will be the Fire, and you will have no helpers.'"
➋ { اِلَّاالْمُتَّقِيْنَ:} The friendship of the righteous will remain even on that Day, because its cause is the attainment of Allah's pleasure, which is something everlasting. The cause of all other friendships is some worldly benefit, which, when it ends, the friendship will also end, rather, it will turn into enmity, because that very friendship became the cause of punishment on that Day.

67. On that Day, all friends will become enemies to one another, except for the righteous [65].
[65] On the Day of Judgment, All Friendships Except Religious Ones Will Become Enmity: On the Day of Judgment, only that friendship will remain which is based on piety, and those who maintained friendship with each other in the world solely for the sake of Allah and His religion. All other kinds of friendships will turn into enmity. And such friendships are of many types. For example, the love of polytheists for their idols and their mutual friendships; the friendship of all kinds of disbelievers in forming a united front against Islam; the friendship of criminals with other criminals, such as robbers with robbers; friendships for worldly interests. All such friendships and relationships will not only be severed, but all will become enemies of each other and will lay the blame on one another, saying, "So-and-so was the cause of my misguidance," and "So-and-so dragged me down with him."
