Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 48) {وَ مَا نُرِيْهِمْ مِّنْ اٰيَةٍ اِلَّا هِيَ اَكْبَرُ مِنْ اُخْتِهَا … :} When Pharaoh and his chiefs called Musa (peace be upon him) a magician and declared his miracles to be magic, they gathered all their expert magicians to confront him, and despite a clear defeat, they persisted in their disbelief. So Allah imposed famine upon them. At this, they requested Musa (peace be upon him) to pray for the removal of the punishment and promised to believe and to grant freedom to the Children of Israel if the famine was lifted. When the famine was removed, they broke their promise. Upon this, Allah sent upon them, one after another, several punishments, each of which was a greater sign than the previous one, and the purpose of these punishments was that they might turn away from disbelief and arrogance and accept faith. For details, see Surah Al-A'raf (133).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

48. 1. By these signs are meant those signs which were shown to them one after another in the form of the flood, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood, etc., which have already been mentioned in Surah Al-A'raf, verses 7. Al-A'raf: 133-135). Each subsequent sign was greater than the previous one, through which the truthfulness of Musa (peace be upon him) became clearer and clearer.

48. 2. The purpose of these signs or punishments was that perhaps they might refrain from denial.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

48. And every sign We showed them was greater than the previous one [47], and We afflicted them with punishment so that they might return.

[47] These signs refer to the successive punishments whose mention has already passed in Surah Al-A'raf, verse 133. Please refer to that commentary. These mild punishments were actually warnings, intended so that perhaps they might refrain from their actions out of fear.
