Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 19) ➊ { وَ جَعَلُوا الْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةَ الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عِبٰدُ الرَّحْمٰنِ اِنَاثًا:} In declaring the angels to be Allah’s daughters, they committed two injustices: first, that the angels, who are Allah’s servants, were elevated beyond their rank and made into Allah’s offspring, which is clear shirk, and servitude and offspring can never be combined in any way. The second injustice is that the angels, who are above and beyond masculinity and femininity and whose creation is entirely different from humans, were degraded to the extent that, instead of assigning them the superior gender of male, they were attributed the weaker gender of female. The lies of liars and slanderers are always exposed by such contradictions.

{اَشَهِدُوْا خَلْقَهُمْ:} This can have two meanings: first, that when Allah created the angels, were these people present so that they came to know of their being feminine? Second, have they seen the structure of their bodies that they are declaring them to be women? Obviously, neither of these is true, so what proof do they have for this claim?

{ سَتُكْتَبُ شَهَادَتُهُمْ وَ يُسْـَٔلُوْنَ:} That is, this false testimony they are giving about the angels being female will be written in their record of deeds, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will be questioned about their false testimony.

➍ Shah Abdul Qadir writes: “Where it is said that they are servants of the Most Merciful, meaning they are not daughters, and it is understood that although angels are neither male nor female, words used for males should be used for them.” (Muwadhih)

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

19. 1. That is, for recompense. Because they will have no evidence for the angels being Allah’s daughters.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

19. And they have made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females. Were they present at their creation [18]? Their testimony will surely be recorded, and they will be questioned [19].

[18] This sentence has two meanings. One is clear from the translation. The second meaning is: Have they thoroughly seen the physical form of the angels from which they have concluded that angels are not male but female? Whereas the reality is that among angels, there is no concept of masculinity or femininity, nor of procreation or reproduction at all. They are purely Allah’s servants and bound by His command. They cannot do anything of their own will.
[19] That is, even then they do not desist from their stubbornness and insist on their claim that angels are indeed women, Allah’s daughters, and worthy goddesses of worship. So their statement will be recorded, and then they will be questioned on what basis they themselves went astray and led many of the creation astray.
