Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 3) ➊ Some explanation of {كِتٰبٌفُصِّلَتْاٰيٰتُهٗ:’’ فُصِّلَتْ ‘‘} has already passed in the commentary of the first verse of Surah Hud. Here our teacher Muhammad Abduh writes: "That is, in it various subjects—beliefs, lawful and unlawful, incidents and examples of previous nations, etc.—are explained in a clear and explicit manner." (Ashraf al-Hawashi) This is the first attribute of {’’ كِتٰبٌ ‘‘}. ➋ { قُرْاٰنًاعَرَبِيًّا:} is the second attribute. For commentary, see Surah Yusuf (2) and Surah Shu'ara (195). ➌ { لِقَوْمٍيَّعْلَمُوْنَ:} is the third attribute. The "lam" of {’’ لِقَوْمٍ ‘‘} can relate to {’’ تَنْزِيْلٌ ‘‘} as well as to {’’ فُصِّلَتْ ‘‘}. That is, this book has been revealed for those people, and its verses have been explained in detail for them, who know, or who want to know and understand. As if it is not for those who, instead of knowledge, are followers of their own desires or the imitation of their forefathers and elders, because their stubbornness and prejudice do not allow them to think, understand, or even listen (see Ha Mim Sajdah: 26), and this not listening and not understanding will take people to Hell, as in Surah Mulk: « وَقَالُوْالَوْكُنَّانَسْمَعُاَوْنَعْقِلُمَاكُنَّافِيْۤاَصْحٰبِالسَّعِيْرِ »[ الملک : ۱۰ ] "And they will say, 'If only we had listened or reasoned, we would not be among the companions of the blazing Fire.'" The same thing has been stated in numerous verses. He said: «وَتِلْكَالْاَمْثَالُنَضْرِبُهَالِلنَّاسِوَمَايَعْقِلُهَاۤاِلَّاالْعٰلِمُوْنَ »[ العنکبوت : ۴۳ ] "And these are the examples We set forth for mankind, but none will understand them except those of knowledge." And He said: «بَلْهُوَاٰيٰتٌۢبَيِّنٰتٌفِيْصُدُوْرِالَّذِيْنَاُوْتُواالْعِلْمَ »[ العنکبوت : ۴۹ ] "Rather, it is clear verses within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge." And He said: « اِنَّفِيْذٰلِكَلَاٰيٰتٍلِّلْعٰلِمِيْنَ »[ الروم : ۲۲ ] "Indeed, in that are surely many signs for those who know." And He said: « اِنَّاۤاَنْزَلْنٰهُقُرْءٰنًاعَرَبِيًّالَّعَلَّكُمْتَعْقِلُوْنَ »[یوسف : ۲ ] "Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an so that you may understand."
