وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَرِنَا ٱلَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ ﴿29﴾
And those who disbelieve will say: "Our Lord! Show us those among jinn and men who led us astray: that we may crush them under our feet so that they become the lowest."
وَقَالَ waqāla And (will) say

(Ayah 29) ➊ { وَ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا رَبَّنَاۤ اَرِنَا …:} Previously, in Ayah (25): « وَ قَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَآءَ …», it was mentioned that, due to the evil deeds of the disbelievers, those jinn and human companions were imposed upon them who kept making their evil deeds appear attractive to them, until the seal of being inhabitants of Hell was firmly set upon them. Now, the desire of the disbelievers regarding these friends and their request to Allah Almighty is mentioned in Hell.
➋ The disbelievers will say this after entering Hell, but Allah Almighty has used the past tense {’’ قَالَ ‘‘} for it, because the word of Allah is so certain that consider this matter as already done.
➌ On the Day of Resurrection, the inhabitants of Hell will be extremely angry with their misleading friends from among the jinn and human devils, and they will wish that they receive the greatest possible punishment. The literal meaning of {’’ اَرِنَا ‘‘} is "show us," but the intent is: O Lord! Hand them over to us, so that we may trample them under our feet, so that they become among the lowest of people. Every disbeliever, along with being misguided himself, is also guilty of misleading others. Whether this wish of the disbelievers will be fulfilled or not, see Surah Al-A'raf (38, 39) and Surah Sad (55 to 61).
➍ From this it is understood that on the Day of Resurrection, only the friendship of the believers will remain, all others will become enemies to one another. For more, see Surah Al-Baqarah (166, 167) and Surah Az-Zukhruf (68).

29. 1 Its meaning is clear that those who misguide are not only devils; however, some have taken Iblis from among the jinn and Qabil from among humans, who was the first among humans to commit the major sin and oppression of killing his brother Habil, and according to the hadith, a portion of the sin of all unjust killings until the Day of Judgment will continue to be attributed to him. In our view, the first meaning is more correct.

29. 2 That is, trample them under their feet and in this way, we will thoroughly humiliate and disgrace them. The people of Hell will say this to satisfy their anger towards their leaders; otherwise, both are criminals and both will equally suffer the punishment of Hell, as Allah Almighty has said elsewhere (لِكُلٍّ ضِعْفٌ وَّلٰكِنْ لَّا تَعْلَمُوْنَ) 7. Al-A'raf:38). After mentioning the people of Hell, Allah Almighty is now mentioning the people of faith, as is generally the style of the Quran, so that along with warning there is encouragement, and along with encouragement there is warning as well. In other words, after warning, now comes glad tidings.

29. And (on the Day of Judgment) the disbelievers will say: "Our Lord! Show us those among the jinn [36] and mankind who led us astray, so that we may trample them under our feet, so they become among the most humiliated."

The Wish of the Misguided to Trample Their Leaders Underfoot:

Here, by "jinn" is meant the devils, that is, the evil jinn who cast whispers into people's hearts. On the Day of Resurrection, when the disbelievers see their fate, they will remember those leaders, those political figures, those religious guides whom they followed and thus went astray. They will plead to Allah to show them those leaders today so that they may trample them under their feet and thus cool, to some extent, the fire of their revenge.
