So be patient (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم); verily, the Promise of Allâh is true and whether We show you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم in this world) some part of what We have promised them, or We cause you to die then still it is to Us they all shall be returned.

(Ayah 77) ➊ { فَاصْبِرْاِنَّوَعْدَاللّٰهِحَقٌّ:} That is, these people who are using lowly tactics to bring you down, you should hold fast to patience in the face of their harm, because Allah’s promise is certainly true (that We help Our messengers and the believers in this world and the Hereafter). Yes, there may be some delay in this, and there are many of Our wisdoms in this delay as well. Our promise can be fulfilled in two ways. ➋ { فَاِمَّانُرِيَنَّكَبَعْضَالَّذِيْنَعِدُهُمْ … :} One is that We show you some part of the punishment which We promise them. If this happens, then you will witness Our help with your own eyes in this world, and seeing their dreadful end will bring you comfort, as happened at Badr and the conquest of Makkah. The answer to {’’ فَاِمَّانُرِيَنَّكَ ‘‘} is implied here and is understood from the context. The second is that We may take you away before showing you their end in this world, even then these people cannot escape anywhere, rather, they will be brought back to Us, and there the promise of punishment will be fulfilled upon them, which will be an expression of your and the believers’ help.

77. 1. That We will take revenge from the disbelievers. This promise can be fulfilled soon, meaning that We can seize them in this world, or according to Allah's will, there can be a delay. That is, on the Day of Resurrection We will punish them. However, it is certain that they cannot escape from Allah's grasp anywhere.
77. 2. That We may afflict them with punishment in your lifetime. And so it happened: Allah took revenge from the disbelievers and cooled the eyes of the Muslims. In the Battle of Badr, seventy disbelievers were killed, in 8 AH Makkah was conquered, and then during the blessed life of the Prophet ﷺ, the entire Arabian Peninsula came under the control of the Muslims.
77. 3. That even if the disbelievers escape worldly accountability and punishment, in the end they will come to Me, where a severe punishment is prepared for them.

77. So (O Prophet!) be patient. Surely, the promise of Allah is true. Whether We show you (in your lifetime) some of what We have promised them, or cause you to die (before that), to Us they will (all) be returned [98].
[98] Three Forms of Punishment for the Disbelievers of Makkah:
That is, these disbelievers of Makkah who are persecuting you and want to hinder the path of Islam, the promise of Allah’s punishment upon them is certain to be fulfilled. And there are three forms of this. The first is that the punishment comes upon them during your lifetime, as happened in the Battle of Badr, the Battle of Ahzab, and at the time of the Conquest of Makkah, when the disbelievers were disgraced. The second form is that a part of this punishment comes upon them after your life. By this is meant those battles which Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq ؓ and Sayyiduna Umar ؓ fought against the apostates, heretics, and disbelievers, and Islam was fully established, and the disbelievers and disbelief were disgraced. And the third and final form is that ultimately, after death, they have to return to Us. At that time, We will take away all their strength and give them the full recompense for their crimes.
