That was because you had been exulting in the earth without any right (by worshipping others instead of Allâh and by committing crimes), and that you used to rejoice extremely (in your error).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 75) ➊ {ذٰلِكُمْبِمَاكُنْتُمْتَفْرَحُوْنَفِيالْاَرْضِ: ’’فَرَحٌ‘‘} “To exult with joy” refers to a state of the heart, and {’’مَرَحٌ‘‘} “to strut” refers to the arrogance that appears through the limbs as a result of that joy, as mentioned in Surah Bani Isra’il: « وَلَاتَمْشِفِيالْاَرْضِمَرَحًا »[ بني إسرائیل : ۳۷ ] “And do not walk upon the earth exultantly.” That is, on the Day of Resurrection, the cause of all your disgrace and punishment will be your exultation over the blessings you possessed and your worldly knowledge, your strutting, and your arrogance in the world, as further stated: «فَلَمَّاجَآءَتْهُمْرُسُلُهُمْبِالْبَيِّنٰتِفَرِحُوْابِمَاعِنْدَهُمْمِّنَالْعِلْمِ »[ المؤمن : ۸۳ ] “Then when their messengers brought them clear proofs, they exulted in what knowledge they had.” ➋ { بِغَيْرِالْحَقِّ:} That is, you exulted on the earth without right. The word { ’’ فِيالْاَرْضِ ‘‘ } indicates that the world is not a place for joy; the place for joy is only Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ اَلدُّنْيَاسِجْنُالْمُؤْمِنِوَجَنَّةُالْكَافِرِ ][مسلم، الزھد والرقائق : ۲۹۵۶ ] “The world is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the disbeliever.” The disbeliever is happy in it because this is his Paradise, but his happiness is without right, because something impermanent is not worthy of being rejoiced over. And you strutted and acted arrogantly without right, even though greatness is the exclusive right of Allah Almighty; it is not the right of you or any other creature. Your right was to be humble before Allah and to accept His verses instead of disputing them. Then, while living on the earth, which is the utmost lowliness, you strutted before the Lord of the Throne, whose elevation has no limit.

75. 1. That is, your misguidance is the result of the fact that you were so deeply involved in disbelief, denial, and wickedness that you would rejoice over them and boast; and this boasting expressed an even greater joy, which necessitates arrogance.
