Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 63) {كَذٰلِكَيُؤْفَكُالَّذِيْنَكَانُوْا … :} Although {’’إِفْكٌ‘‘} also means lie and slander, here it is from {’’ أَفَكَيَأْفِكُأَفْكًا‘‘} (ض) (with a fatha on the hamzah), which means "to turn away," as in Surah Al-Ahqaf: «قَالُوْۤااَجِئْتَنَالِتَاْفِكَنَاعَنْاٰلِهَتِنَافَاْتِنَابِمَاتَعِدُنَاۤاِنْكُنْتَمِنَالصّٰدِقِيْنَ »[ الأحقاف : ۲۲ ] "They said, 'Have you come to us to turn us away from our gods? Then bring us what you threaten us with, if you should be of the truthful.'" In {’’ كَانُوْابِاٰيٰتِاللّٰهِيَجْحَدُوْنَ ‘‘}, due to {’’كَانَ‘‘ }, there is continuity, so it is translated as: "used to deny the signs of Allah." {’’جَحَدَيَجْحَدُجُحُوْدًا‘‘} (ف) means to deny knowingly. This is the answer to the question: Despite such clear proofs, what is the real reason for these people's deviation from the truth, and has anyone before them adopted this approach, or is it only their doing? It is said, not only these people, but all those before them who, despite knowing, used to deny the signs of Allah out of stubbornness and enmity, were also turned away from the truth in the same way. Arrogance and denial is their disease; this was also the disease of those before. Now, whoever decides not to accept, who can make him accept? Just as a sleeping person can be awakened, but who can awaken one who, despite being awake, insists on keeping his eyes closed?
