Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 12) ➊ { ذٰلِكُمْبِاَنَّهٗۤاِذَادُعِيَاللّٰهُوَحْدَهٗ …:} That is, they will be answered that the condition you are afflicted with today is because when Allah alone was called upon in the world, you did not believe, but when others were associated with Him as partners, you accepted. Far from worshipping Allah alone, even at the mention of Allah alone your hearts would become constricted, and at the mention of others your faces would light up with joy. (See Az-Zumar: 45) Now, even if you were sent back to the world, you would do the same as you did before, therefore there is no way for you to get out of Hell. See Surah Al-An'am (28).
➋ { فَالْحُكْمُلِلّٰهِالْعَلِيِّالْكَبِيْرِ :} So now, the authority to judge belongs only to Allah, Who is Most High and Most Great. Today, the deities, benefactors, removers of difficulties, and fulfillers of needs that you made have no part in the decision. What part can these beings have in the decision of {’’ الْعَلِيِّالْكَبِيْرِ ‘‘}, whose very essence is made from lowliness and helplessness?

12. 1 This explains the reason for their not being taken out of Hell: that you denied the oneness of Allah in the world and shirk was desirable to you, therefore now there is nothing for you except the eternal punishment of Hell.
12. 2 It is the command of this One Allah that now the punishment of Hell is forever for you and there is no way out of it. Who is Al-A‘la, meaning exalted above those things that anyone could be like Him in His essence or attributes, and Al-Kabir, meaning too great for anyone to be like Him, or to have a wife or children or a partner.

12. (They will be told:) "This is because when Allah alone was called upon, you disbelieved, but when partners were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgment belongs to Allah alone [15], the Most High, the Most Great."
[15] The Definite Sign of a Polytheist: Aversion to Pure Monotheism:
Despite being a humble creation of Allah, your attitude towards your Lord was such that when you were told that only Allah is worthy of worship, signs of displeasure would immediately appear on your faces. All your supplications and love were directed towards others. When the mention of Allah’s partners came up, your faces would light up with joy. And today, the decision regarding the plea you are making is in the hands of that Allah who is not a helpless creation like you, but is the Creator of all and possesses the highest majesty. Now you can judge for yourselves what His attitude towards you should be.
