Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 66 to 68) ➊ These verses are also related to the hypocrites; in them, they are encouraged towards sincerity and abandoning hypocrisy. That is, ideally, one should not hesitate to give up their life in obeying Allah’s command, (but these are such people that) if Allah were to command them to destroy their own lives or leave their homes, they would never carry it out. The commands We have given them are very easy and purely for their own benefit; if they accept the advice and act upon these commands, hypocrisy will go away, and they will attain perfect faith. They should consider this a blessing. (Muwaddih)
➋ Ibn Ashur states that in my opinion, this is a prelude to the rulings of jihad that are about to begin: «{ يٰۤاَيُّهَاالَّذِيْنَاٰمَنُوْاخُذُوْاحِذْرَكُمْفَانْفِرُوْاثُبَاتٍاَوِانْفِرُوْاجَمِيْعًا }»[ النساء : ۷۱ ] and the relevance to these verses is also that if We had made migration or fighting, i.e., «{ اَنِاقْتُلُوْۤااَنْفُسَكُمْاَوِاخْرُجُوْامِنْدِيَارِكُمْ }», obligatory upon them, very few would have acted upon it. But if they had done so, it would have been better for them and a cause of immense reward. That is, the commands regarding the highest levels of faith, which are the peak of Islam’s hump, are yet to come, let alone that these people want to have their judgments made elsewhere. Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
66. 1. In this verse, by referring to those same disobedient people, it is being said that if they were commanded to kill one another or to leave their homes, then, when they could not act upon simple matters, how could they act upon this? Or Allah Almighty has stated about them according to His knowledge, which is certainly in accordance with the facts. The meaning is that it is indeed difficult to act upon strict commands, but Allah Almighty is very compassionate and merciful, and His commands are also easy. Therefore, if they follow those commands which they are advised, it will be better for them and a cause of steadfastness. Because faith increases with obedience and decreases with disobedience; from goodness, the path to more goodness opens, and from evil, more evil is born, meaning its path becomes wide and easy.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
66. And if We had decreed for them, "Kill yourselves" or "Leave your homes," only a few of them would have done so [98]. But if they had done what they were advised, it would have been better for them and a means of greater steadfastness.
[98] That is, such hypocrites who are not willing to accept the decision of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If, for some reason, We had made killing obligatory upon them, as it was made obligatory upon the worshippers of the calf, or if We had commanded them to migrate from here (Madinah) to another place, then how could these people have fulfilled such sacrifices? And if these people had submitted themselves before the commands of Allah and His Messenger, then their destination would have become nearer and, in any case, they would have been in benefit. Here, in this world, they would have attained a dignified life, and in the Hereafter, they would have been deserving of a great reward.
