50. 2 That is, this act of theirs—claiming their own purity—is sufficient to increase their falsehood. From this verse of the Noble Quran and the narrations regarding its context of revelation, it is understood that praising and commending one another, especially claiming the purification of souls, is not correct and permissible. The same point is stated elsewhere in the Noble Quran in this way, (فَلَا تُزَكُّوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْ ۭ هُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقٰى) 53:32 Do not ascribe purity and praise to yourselves; Allah alone knows who among you is truly righteous. In the hadith, it is narrated by Hazrat Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet ﷺ commanded us to throw dust on the faces of those who praise: "We should throw dust in the faces of those who praise" (Sahih Muslim, Book of Zuhd). In another hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a man praising another man, so he ﷺ said, (Woe to you! You have cut your companion's neck), then said that if any of you must praise someone, he should say it in this way: I think of him as such-and-such. Do not declare anyone's purity before Allah (Sahih Bukhari).

[82] That is, their saying such things from their own mouths is a complete lie which they have fabricated and attributed to Allah. Leaving aside their other sins, this single sin alone is sufficient proof of their being truly sinful.
