➋ { وَ لَا يَكْتُمُوْنَ اللّٰهَ حَدِيْثًا:} Regarding the disbelievers, the Qur'an also states that they will deny their polytheism, saying, "We did not commit shirk at all." (Al-An'am: 23) However, this verse does not contradict that, because at first they will truly deny having committed shirk, but when their hands and feet testify against them (Ha Mim As-Sajdah: 21 to 23), then they will not be able to hide anything from Allah Almighty. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Day of Resurrection is a very long day; at one point they will deny, and at another point they will regret their shirk and evil deeds." [74] Then, when the testimonies against such disobedient people are completed before Allah and their crime is established based on these testimonies, at that time they will wish that the earth would split open and they would be swallowed up in it, so that they could escape the evil consequences of their disobedience and the punishment. But this will not be possible in any way.
