Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). (Ayah 27) {وَاللّٰهُيُرِيْدُاَنْيَّتُوْبَعَلَيْكُمْ … : } That is, Allah Almighty wants you to adopt purity instead of immorality and wickedness, but the evildoers who follow their desires want Muslims also to become completely unrestrained like them and stray far from the truth. Therefore, do not listen to the words of the lustful. The reference is to Jews and Christians, Magians, and Communists, who even consider marriage with forbidden relations to be permissible, and some have even abolished the institution of marriage altogether and become like animals, to the extent that they have legally permitted the act of the people of Lot.

27. Allah wishes to turn to you in mercy, but those who follow their desires [46] want you to deviate greatly from the right path.
[46] The Uproar of Opponents Over Social Reforms:
Those who follow their desires refer to all such people who consider the customs and traditions of their forefathers superior to Allah’s guidance and love those things, whether they are Jews, Christians, hypocrites, or other polytheists. Allah Almighty revealed countless commands for the eradication of social evils, the implementation of which was unpleasant for most people. For example, fixing a share for girls and young children in inheritance, ending the restrictions on widows from their in-laws and granting them complete freedom to remarry after the waiting period, abolishing the inheritance rights of adopted sons, elevating the status of women in society by freeing them from various injustices of their husbands, and so on. On all such reforms, the elders and worshippers of ancestral customs would cry out and incite people against Muslims and Islam. For instance, Allah Almighty placed a restriction on having more than four wives. Now, those Muslims who had divorced their extra wives, their children would be told that according to this command, the relationship between your mothers and father has been declared unlawful, so are you legitimate children or illegitimate, and so on. And the greatest objections came from the Jews, who had themselves declared many lawful things as unlawful and had given their superstitions and myths the status of divine law. For example, a menstruating woman was considered so impure among them that even the food cooked by her was not permissible, and for this reason, they would completely isolate them during menstruation. Following their example, such a custom had also become prevalent among the Ansar of Madinah, but according to the command of the Quran, except for intercourse, all relations with a menstruating woman could be maintained just as in days of purity. On such matters, the Jews would cry out, saying, “Look, this Prophet is bent on declaring every impure thing pure and every unlawful thing lawful.” Allah Almighty says that you should pay no attention to such people at all, and if you start listening to them, they will throw you far away from the right path. Therefore, act upon the commands you are receiving without any concern or fear of their objections.
