Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
The Messiah will never be proud to reject to be a slave to Allâh, nor the angels who are the near (to Allâh). And whosoever rejects His worship and is proud, then He will gather them all together unto Himself.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 172) {لَنْيَّسْتَنْكِفَالْمَسِيْحُ ……:} In this verse, the false beliefs of both the Christians and the polytheists are refuted, because the Christians call the Messiah (peace be upon him) the son of Allah and the polytheists call the angels the daughters of Allah. Allah Almighty is saying that both of these acknowledge servitude to Allah and do not feel any shame or embarrassment in being His servant. The same was the case with our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that when someone called him the servant of Allah, he would be extremely pleased. Because being the servant of the Owner of all sovereignty and the Absolute King is a position of utmost honor and dignity, not of any disgrace or humiliation. Ibn Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) has written in his book "Anwar al-Qulub" that there is no position more honorable for a person than the position of servitude. The most honored of creation, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), was mentioned as "Abd" (servant) in three places, which are positions of great honor. These three positions are: (1) The descent of revelation. See: Kahf: 1, Furqan: 1, Najm: 10, Hadid: 9. (2) Isra and Mi'raj. See: Bani Isra'il: 1. (3) Supplication. (See: Jinn: 19)
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
172. 1. Some people associated angels with divinity, just as they had with ‘Isa (Jesus) ؑ. Allah Almighty is saying that all of these are servants of Allah and they absolutely do not deny this. On what basis do you make them partners with Allah or in His divinity?
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
172. The Messiah does not disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor do the nearest angels. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant [229], He will gather them all to Himself soon.
[229] Refutation of the Divinity of Jesus:
In this verse, another argument is presented to refute the divinity of Jesus, which is that Jesus (peace be upon him) not only did not feel any shame in being a servant and slave of Allah, but rather considered it a matter of pride. The same is the case with the close angels. Therefore, neither Jesus (peace be upon him) can be a partner in the divinity of Allah, nor the close angels. Because one who is a servant and slave of someone cannot be his partner, and one who is his partner cannot be his servant and slave. The proof was established against the Christians by mentioning that Jesus (peace be upon him) used to worship Allah, because they themselves admitted that Jesus (peace be upon him) used to worship Allah on the Mount of Olives. They are being asked: if he was Allah, or a part of Allah, or the son of Allah, then why did he worship Him? Then, angels are such creatures who have neither a father nor a mother, but even they do not claim to be Allah; rather, they willingly and gladly remain engaged in the worship of Allah Almighty. Then, when the angels, who are a more subtle creation than Jesus (peace be upon him), do not feel any shame in worshipping Allah, how could Jesus (peace be upon him) do so?
