Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 160)➊ In {فَبِظُلْمٍ مِّنَ الَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا: ”فَبِظُلْمٍ“ }, the tanween is for magnification, and because the jar majroor comes first, it creates specification; therefore, the translation is "because of their great wrongdoing."
➋ After mentioning the rebellion and mischief of the Jews, now their punishment is mentioned. (Kabir)
➌ The prohibition of pure things in {حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ طَيِّبٰتٍ اُحِلَّتْ لَهُمْ ……:} was partly from Allah due to their rebellion, because they were very bold in sinning, so that their rebellion would be somewhat broken; this was a legal prohibition, as in Surah Al-An'am (146). And some things they made unlawful by giving their priests and monks the authority to declare lawful and unlawful, so these became unlawful as a punishment for their great wrongdoing of shirk (making priests and monks as lords) in Allah's decree, just as some among the Muslims have also declared many lawful things unlawful and many unlawful things lawful on the word of their imams.
➍ Shah Waliullah (may Allah have mercy on him) has mentioned another fine point, that here {”طَيِّبٰتٍ“} refers to the suspension of those favors which were in the form of kingship, prophethood, and help, as Allah said: «وَ ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ وَ الْمَسْكَنَةُ » [البقرۃ : ۶۱ ] "And humiliation and poverty were imposed upon them." (Fathur Rahman) In reality, all three meanings can be intended.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

160. 1. That is, due to their crimes and sins, as a punishment, We made many lawful things forbidden for them (the details of which are in Surah Al-An'am, 146).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

160. So, because of the wrongdoing of the Jews and for their hindering many from the way of Allah [209], We made unlawful for them certain good things which had been lawful [210] for them.

[209]
The Inventors of Misguiding Systems are the Jews:

The series of evil deeds by the Jews continues further. The crime mentioned in this verse is that they neither believe themselves nor let others believe; rather, when someone is inclined to believe, they create various doubts and suspicions in his mind and prevent him from the path of Allah. And this series is not only related to the Prophetic era ﷺ, but it seems that this misfortune has been destined for these Jews until the Day of Judgment. In the present age, the founder of the philosophy of communism was a Jew, and it was Jewish minds that shaped it into a system. The foundation of this ideology is based on the outright denial of Allah Almighty. Another misleading philosophy of today is that of Sigmund Freud, who greatly promoted obscenity and shamelessness, and this Freud was also an individual from the Children of Israel.

[210] One punishment for such crimes was that such misfortune was imposed upon their hearts that they are not willing to listen to the truth, and another punishment was that some foods and drinks which were previously lawful for them were made unlawful.
