وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَهُمُ ٱلطُّورَ بِمِيثَـٰقِهِمْ وَقُلْنَا لَهُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ لَا تَعْدُوا۟ فِى ٱلسَّبْتِ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَـٰقًا غَلِيظًا ﴿154﴾
And for their covenant, We raised over them the Mount and (on the other occasion) We said: "Enter the gate prostrating (or bowing) with humility;" and We commanded them: "Transgress not (by doing worldly works) on the Sabbath (Saturday)." And We took from them a firm covenant.
وَرَفَعْنَا warafaʿnā And We raised
فَوْقَهُمُ fawqahumu over them
ٱلطُّورَ l-ṭūra the mount
بِمِيثَـٰقِهِمْ bimīthāqihim for their covenant
وَقُلْنَا waqul'nā and We said
لَهُمُ lahumu to them
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ud'khulū Enter
ٱلْبَابَ l-bāba the gate
سُجَّدًۭا sujjadan prostrating
وَقُلْنَا waqul'nā And We said
لَهُمْ lahum to them
لَا (Do) not
تَعْدُوا۟ taʿdū transgress
فِى in
ٱلسَّبْتِ l-sabti the Sabbath
وَأَخَذْنَا wa-akhadhnā And We took
مِنْهُم min'hum from them
مِّيثَـٰقًا mīthāqan a covenant
غَلِيظًۭا ghalīẓan solemn
