It will not be in accordance with your desires (Muslims), nor those of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), whosoever works evil, will have the recompense thereof, and he will not find any protector or helper besides Allâh.

(Ayah 123) ➊ { لَيْسَبِاَمَانِيِّكُمْ … :} The People of the Book thought that they are special servants, that for the sins for which others will be seized, they will not be seized, their prophets will support them, they will stay in Hell for only a few days. (See Baqarah: 80) Only they will enter Paradise. (See Baqarah: 111) Nowadays, some naive Muslims also hold such beliefs about themselves, so Allah said that whoever does evil, whoever it may be, will be punished, no one’s support will benefit. Only if Allah Himself releases someone from His grasp, will he be released. One can draw an analogy from the calamities of the world.
➋ { مَنْيَّعْمَلْسُوْٓءًايُّجْزَبِهٖ …:} Wishful thinking and vain hopes cannot avert punishment, punishment will certainly be given, whether in this world or in the Hereafter. It is a different matter that Allah, due to repentance, or due to some good deed, or due to calamities that come in the world, may forgive. In summary, no one should think that someone will free him there by their own power: «{ وَلَايَجِدْلَهٗمِنْدُوْنِاللّٰهِوَلِيًّاوَّلَانَصِيْرًا }» “And he will not find for himself any friend or helper besides Allah.” Yes, Allah Himself may make the worldly hardships an expiation for him, or may pardon him due to his adherence to Tawheed and Sunnah, for He is the Owner and Controller.

123. (Salvation) is neither according to your desires nor the desires [163] of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it, and he will not find for himself any protector or helper besides Allah.
[163] The Belief in Cheap Salvation:
Among the paths by which Satan leads mankind astray, the most notable is the “belief in cheap salvation.” In this regard, Muslims will even surpass the Jews and Christians, who, in addition to relying on the intercession of saints, have also constructed “heavenly gates” in this world, such that whoever passes through this gate on the day of the saint’s festival is considered destined for Paradise. In this verse, Allah Almighty refutes such absurdities and explains the correct path to salvation, which is the law of recompense and retribution of Allah Almighty. This law is mentioned at numerous places in the Noble Quran, and its notable clauses are as follows:
(1) Clauses of the Law of Recompense and Retribution:
Every person will receive only what he himself has earned; the recompense for a bad deed will be bad, and for a good deed, good.
(2) There is no difference between man and woman in terms of recompense and retribution.
(3) Even if someone has done the smallest good deed, he will surely receive its reward; Allah does not overlook even the smallest good deed of anyone. No one will be deprived of even an atom’s weight of their right.
(4) On the Day of Resurrection, no one—whether it be his saint or a close relative—will bear the burden of another’s sins.
(5) It is impossible that the burden of Zaid’s sins be placed upon Bakr.
(6) Only sinful monotheists will be eligible for intercession, and that too with the conditions that Allah Himself wills intercession for someone, and only the person whom Allah grants permission will be able to intercede. Apart from this law, all the paths to salvation that mankind has devised are those shown by Satan. They will be of no benefit; rather, the harm will be that, relying on such hopes, a person becomes even bolder in committing sins in this world. In this verse, Allah Almighty has clarified that on the Day of Resurrection, such fabricated supports will be of no avail to people to save them from Allah’s punishment.
