يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ ۖ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا ﴿120﴾
He [Shaitân (Satan)] makes promises to them, and arouses in them false desires; and Shaitân’s (Satân) promises are nothing but deceptions.
يَعِدُهُمْ yaʿiduhum He promises them
وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ ۖ wayumannīhim and arouses desires in them
وَمَا wamā and not
يَعِدُهُمُ yaʿiduhumu promises them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ l-shayṭānu the Shaitaan

(Ayah 121,120) Iblis has nothing except false promises, wrong desires, and whispers, although all his promises are lies and complete deception; apparently attractive, but inwardly deadly. See Surah Fatir (35:5-6) and Surah Ibrahim (14:23), and it is obvious that, after recognizing your enemy, what can be the result of trusting his promises and considering wrong desires as true except Hell.

120. Satan makes promises to them and arouses hopes [161] in them. But Satan does not promise them anything except delusion.

[161] For example, the deception of Satan that, with the existence of Tawheed, all other sins will be forgiven, thus emboldening one to commit sins; or strengthening the belief that the friends of Allah will intercede for their disciples and save them; or that there is still plenty of life left, so there is no hurry for good deeds or repentance. All such promises and hopes are made by Satan to keep a person in delusion. And the other aspect is that Satan continues to create baseless desires in a person's heart, which increase his greed and prolong his hopes. Thus, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that as the son of Adam grows old, his greed and desires remain young, and these two things are the source of all sins. Because of prolonged hopes, a person does not even consider that he will have to leave this world at some point; he forgets about his own death. Whereas such desires have never been fulfilled for anyone throughout their life, nor will they ever be. In pursuit of such desires, he commits various kinds of sins and continues to do so until death suddenly seizes him and cuts off the chain of his long desires.
