Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 60) ➊ { وَ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ تَرَى الَّذِيْنَ كَذَبُوْا … :} Although associating partners with Allah, ascribing to Him a wife or children, declaring oneself His beloved, and all other lies are included in lying against Allah, but in the context of these verses, the foremost examples are the two lies mentioned in the previous verses: one, their claim that Allah did not guide them, and two, that Allah did not grant them respite.
{ وُجُوْهُهُمْ مُّسْوَدَّةٌ:} The mention of the faces of the disbelievers being blackened on the Day of Resurrection has come in several places in the Noble Qur’an. See Surah Al-Imran (106, 107), Yunus (27), and Abasa (40 to 42).
{ اَلَيْسَ فِيْ جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْمُتَكَبِّرِيْنَ : ’’ مَثْوًى ‘‘ ثَوٰي يَثْوِيْ بِالْمَكَانِ وَ أَثْوٰي فِيْهِ‘‘} To reside in a place, as in Surah Al-Qasas: « وَ مَا كُنْتَ ثَاوِيًا فِيْۤ اَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ » [ القصص : ۴۵ ] “And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan.” From this, it is understood that the cause of their entry into Hell will be their arrogance, that they were not willing to humble themselves before Allah, and despite knowing the truth, they refused to accept it. The cause of their faces being blackened will also be this arrogance, because the face of the arrogant is disfigured to break his arrogance. (Ibn Ashur)
Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: [ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِيْ قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ، قَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَّكُوْنَ ثَوْبُهُ حَسَنًا وَ نَعْلُهُ حَسَنَةً، قَالَ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ جَمِيْلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ، الْكِبْرُ بَطَرُ الْحَقِّ وَ غَمْطُ النَّاسِ] [مسلم، الإیمان، باب تحریم الکبر و بیانہ : ۹۱ ] “He who has in his heart an atom’s weight of arrogance will not enter Paradise.” A man said: “A person likes that his clothes are good and his shoes are good (is this also arrogance)?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah is very beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down on people.” Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: [ يُحْشَرُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَمْثَالَ الذَّرِّ فِيْ صُوَرِ الرِّجَالِ يَغْشَاهُمُ الذُّلُّ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ فَيُسَاقُوْنَ إِلٰی سِجْنٍ فِيْ جَهَنَّمَ يُسَمَّی بُوْلَسَ تَعْلُوْهُمْ نَارُ الْأَنْيَارِ يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ عُصَارَةِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ طِيْنَةِ الْخَبَالِ ] [ ترمذي، صفۃ القیامۃ، باب ما جاء في شدۃ الوعید المتکبرین : ۲۴۹۲، قال الترمذي حسن صحیح وقال الألباني حسن ] “The arrogant will be raised on the Day of Resurrection like ants in the forms of men, humiliation covering them from every place. Then they will be driven to a prison in Hell called ‘Bawlas.’ The fire of fires (the greatest fire) will be over them, and they will be given the filth of the people of the Fire, ‘Teenat al-Khabal,’ to drink.” [ أَعَاذَنَا اللّٰہُ مِنْہُ ]

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

60. 1. Due to which there will be the witnessing of the horrors of punishment and the wrath of Allah. 60. 1. In the hadith it is stated: الکبر بطر الحق وغمط الناس — arrogance is the denial of truth and looking down upon people. This is a rhetorical question, meaning the abode of those who show arrogance towards the obedience of Allah is Hell.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

On the Day of Resurrection, you will see the faces of those who lied against Allah [77] turning black. Is there not a dwelling in Hell for the arrogant [78]?

[77]
Forms of Fabricating Lies Against Allah:

One form of lying against Allah is to claim that Allah has granted such and such deities, idols, or beloved ones certain powers. Therefore, by visiting such and such person for sustenance, or such and such shrine for children, or such and such sanctuary for healing, one’s needs are fulfilled. Another form is to deny Allah’s verses and His Messenger, and to say that Allah has not revealed anything, even though it was indeed revealed from Allah.
[78] The punishment for their denial is that their faces will be blackened, just as the common saying goes, “the liar’s face is blackened.” And the punishment for arrogance can be nothing other than Hell, so that all their pride is broken and their minds are set right.
