So, the evil results of that which they earned overtook them. And those who did wrong of these [people to whom you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) have been sent] will also be overtaken by the evil results (torment) for that which they earned; and they will never be able to escape.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 51) ➊ By { فَاَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّاٰتُ مَا كَسَبُوْا : ’’ سَيِّاٰتُ ‘‘} is meant the evil consequences and retribution of their deeds, that is, the evil results of their bad actions came upon them in the form of various punishments.
{ وَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا مِنْ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ … :} This is a warning to all the disbelievers of the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and those after him, that if they too do not refrain from ingratitude and wrongdoing (disbelief and polytheism) like the people before them, then the evil consequences of their deeds will soon come upon them.
➌ The باء in { وَ مَا هُمْ بِمُعْجِزِيْنَ : ’’ بِمُعْجِزِيْنَ ‘‘} is for emphasis of negation, therefore it has been translated as "they are by no means ones who can frustrate [Him]." That is, when the evil consequences and retribution of their deeds came upon them in the form of various punishments, neither could they prevent them, nor would it ever happen that they could overpower Allah Almighty and escape or hide from His grasp. Thus, those among them who remained alive were afflicted with Allah's punishment in this world in the form of famine, fear, war, imprisonment, and killing, and for those who died, a severe punishment is awaiting.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

51. 1. By "evils" is meant the recompense for their evils; it is called "evils" in terms of similarity, otherwise the recompense for evil is not itself evil, as in "And the recompense of an evil is an evil like it" (Fath al-Qadir 49).
2. This is a warning to the disbelievers of Makkah; and so it happened—like the previous nations, they too were afflicted with famine, killing, captivity, etc. They could not prevent these punishments that came from Allah.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

So they tasted the evil consequences of what they had earned, and those among these people who do wrong will soon taste the evil consequences of their deeds as well, and they cannot escape Us.

Abundance of Wealth Is Not Proof of Allah’s Pleasure:

The previous nations also remained under this misconception that their prosperity was proof that their Lord was pleased and happy with them. Then, they would use this as evidence for the truth of their ancestral polytheistic religion. So, the outcome they had to face because of these beliefs is well known to everyone, and now, as the polytheists are following in their footsteps, they too are destined to face a similar end. They cannot escape Allah’s grasp by running away anywhere.
