مَن يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ ﴿40﴾
"To whom comes a disgracing torment, and on whom descends an everlasting torment."
مَن man (Upon) whom
يَأْتِيهِ yatīhi will come
عَذَابٌۭ ʿadhābun a punishment
يُخْزِيهِ yukh'zīhi disgracing him
وَيَحِلُّ wayaḥillu and descends
عَلَيْهِ ʿalayhi on him
عَذَابٌۭ ʿadhābun a punishment
مُّقِيمٌ muqīmun everlasting

40. 1. From which it will become clear who is upon the truth and who is upon falsehood. By this is meant the punishment in this world, as happened in the Battle of Badr: seventy of the disbelievers were killed and seventy were taken captive, until after the conquest of Makkah, dominance and authority were also granted to the Muslims, after which nothing remained for the disbelievers except humiliation and disgrace.

4. 2. By this is meant the punishment of Hell, in which they will remain forever.

upon whom will come a punishment that will disgrace him, and upon whom will descend a lasting punishment [56]."

[56] The disgraceful punishment refers to the punishment in this world. That is, after a short while, you will be afflicted with this humiliating punishment. The everlasting punishment refers to the punishment of the Hereafter, which you will come to know of as soon as you die.
