وَٱذْكُرْ عِبَـٰدَنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُو۟لِى ٱلْأَيْدِى وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ ﴿45﴾

And remember Our slaves, Ibrâhîm (Abraham), Ishâq (Isaac), and Ya‘qûb (Jacob), (all) owners of strength (in worshipping Us) and (also) of religious understanding.

(Ayah 45){ وَ اذْكُرْ عِبٰدَنَاۤ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ وَ اِسْحٰقَ … :} After the detailed mention of the first three prophets, a brief mention of several prophets is given. {’’ الْاَيْدِيْ ‘‘ ’’يَدٌ‘‘} is the plural of 'yad', which is used in the Arabic language in the meaning of blessing and also in the meaning of strength. In this regard, the meaning of these prophets being {’’ اُولِي الْاَيْدِيْ ‘‘} (those with hands) is that they possessed great strength in worship and in enjoining good and forbidding evil, and also that they had many blessings from Allah Almighty. In the explanation of {’’ الْاَبْصَارِ ‘‘} (eyes), all commentators agree that it refers to religious insight and the recognition of Allah Almighty.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. 45. 1. That is, they were very strong in the worship of Allah and in supporting the religion, and were distinguished in religious and scholarly insight. Some say these are those people upon whom Allah bestowed special favor and grace, or they were those who did favors to people.

45. And remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—men of strength [52] and insight.

[52] That is, these three prophets strove with all their strength for the elevation of the religion and refrained from acts of disobedience. They would also reflect and ponder over the signs of Allah scattered all around and over the commands of Allah, thereby gaining insight. They were people of true understanding. They did not walk blindly, but rather, with their eyes open, they walked the straight path of guidance in the light of knowledge and recognition.
