وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُۥدَ سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ ﴿30﴾
And to Dâwûd (David) We gave Sulaimân (Solomon). How excellent a slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)!
وَوَهَبْنَا wawahabnā And We gave
لِدَاوُۥدَ lidāwūda to Dawood
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ sulaymāna Sulaiman
نِعْمَ niʿ'ma an excellent
ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ l-ʿabdu slave
إِنَّهُۥٓ innahu Indeed, he
أَوَّابٌ awwābun (was) one who repeatedly turned

(Ayah 30) ➊ { وَ وَهَبْنَا لِدَاوٗدَ سُلَيْمٰنَ :} Mentioning the favors upon Dawud (peace be upon him), it is stated that We granted him a son like Sulayman, who was of high rank. He was a prophet like him and such a king that after him there was no king like him. { نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ اِنَّهٗۤ اَوَّابٌ : ’’ اَوَّابٌ ‘‘ آبَ يَؤُوْبُ أَوْبًا} (N) is an intensive form, meaning one who turns much (to Allah). That is, he was a very good servant of Allah and in every matter would turn much to Allah, and would not take any step based on his own desire. Ahead, as an example of his being a good servant of Allah and one who turns much to Him, two of his incidents have been mentioned.

30. And to Dawud We granted Sulayman [38]. What an excellent servant! He was ever turning (to Allah).

[38] The discussion began from the point that only those people follow their desires who do not care about the reckoning of the Hereafter. Then, after giving two proofs regarding the Hereafter, the narrative returns to this story: that We granted Dawud (David) a son, Sulayman (Solomon), who, like him, was both a prophet and a king. And, like him, he was also a devoted servant of Allah.
