Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 77) {وَ جَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهٗ هُمُ الْبٰقِيْنَ :} It is clear from this that after the flood, only the progeny of Nuh (Noah) (peace be upon him) continued, while the progeny of the other believers ended. According to this verse, the verse of Surah Bani Isra'il (17:3): « ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوْحٍ » (O descendants of those whom We carried with Nuh!) also means that later on, only the descendants of the sons and grandsons of Nuh (peace be upon him) who were aboard the Ark continued. Tabari has narrated with an authentic chain from Ali bin Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), that no one remained except the offspring of Nuh (peace be upon him).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

77. 1. According to the opinion of most commentators, Prophet Nuh ﷺ had three sons: Ham, Sam, and Yafith. From them, the later generations of humanity continued. That is why Prophet Nuh ﷺ is called the second Adam, meaning, like Adam ﷺ, after Adam ﷺ, he is the second father of mankind. From the progeny of Sam are the Arabs, Persians, Romans, and Jews and Christians. From the progeny of Ham are Sudan (from east to west), that is, Sindh, Hind, Nubia, Zanj, Habasha, Qibt, and Berbers, etc. And from the progeny of Yafith are Saqala, Turks, Khazar, and Yajuj and Majuj, etc. (Fath al-Qadeer) And Allah knows best.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

77. And We made only his descendants [45] survive.

Is Nuh the Second Adam?

Here, it is only mentioned that after the flood of Nuh, the human race continued only through the three sons of Nuh (Ham, Sam, and Yafith), and the fourth son, Yam, was a disbeliever who drowned in the flood. This is also supported by the following hadith from Tirmidhi: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah that he said in the explanation of this verse that Nuh ؑ had three sons: Ham, Sam, and Yafith. Ham is the father of the Abyssinians, Sam of the Arabs, and Yafith of the Romans [ترمذي۔ ابواب التفسير].
But from some other verses, it is understood that after the flood of Nuh, the human race continued from the descendants of Sayyiduna Nuh and from the descendants of those who were with him in the Ark [سوره بني اسرائيل آيت نمبر 3].
From this, it appears that the first verse is general, and the second is detailed.
