Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 57) ➊ { وَ لَوْ لَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّيْ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِيْنَ :} With this, he will remember Allah’s favor and mention it, saying that if my Lord had not bestowed His favor upon me, I too would have been among those who were seized and brought to Hell. It is His favor that He kept me firm upon faith; otherwise, my own steps would have faltered as well.
➋ The story of these two friends is related to the story of the owner of the two gardens mentioned in Surah Al-Kahf (who denied the Hereafter) and his believing friend.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

57. 1 That is, upon peering, he will see that person in the midst of Hell and this person of Paradise will say to him that you too were about to mislead me and throw me into destruction, but it was Allah’s favor upon me, otherwise today I would have been with you in Hell.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

57. And had it not been for the favor of my Lord upon me, I too would have been among those brought forth (like the criminals) [33].

[33] When the narrator of the story will look towards Hell, he will see his companion lying in the very midst of Hell. At that moment, he will say to him: "O wretched one! If I had listened to you, you would have dragged me down with you, and my fate would have been the same as yours. It is only Allah's special mercy upon me that I did not fall for your deception and was saved from this punishment, otherwise you left no stone unturned in trying to mislead me."
