Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 105,104) ➊ { وَنَادَيْنٰهُاَنْيّٰۤاِبْرٰهِيْمُ … :} When both of them submitted and he laid him down on one side of his forehead (then what was to happen, happened), and We called out to him, "O Ibrahim! Indeed, you have fulfilled the vision." Mufassir Sulaiman al-Jamal said: "If you say, how did Allah say to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) that you have fulfilled the vision, whereas he saw in the dream that he was slaughtering his son, and the vision would have been fulfilled only if he had slaughtered him? Then I will say that Allah said he fulfilled the vision because he exerted his full effort and strength, did all that he could do, did everything that a slaughterer does, so he fulfilled what Allah required, and that was to be completely obedient and submissive to Allah's command." Baqa'i, in response to this question, said: {’’قَالَاللّٰهُقَدْصَدَّقْتَالرُّؤْيَافِيْأَنَّكَتَذْبَحُهُفَإِنَّكَقَدْعَلَجْتَوَبَذَلْتَالْوُسْعَفِيْهِوَفَعَلْتَمَارَأَيْتَفِيالْمَنَامِفَمَاانْذَبَحَلِأَنَّكَمَارَأَيْتَأَنَّكَذَبَحْتَهُفَاكْفُفْعَنْمُعَالَجَةِالذِّبْحِبِأَزْيَدَمِنْهٰذَا ‘‘} "Allah said, 'You have fulfilled your vision that you are slaughtering him,' because you tried and exerted your full strength in it and did what you saw in the dream, but he was not slaughtered, because you did not see that you had slaughtered him (rather, you saw that you were slaughtering him), so stop at this point and do not try to slaughter further." Besides Baqa'i, many other commentators have given the same explanation that the dream {’’ اَنِّيْۤاَذْبَحُكَ ‘‘} was, {’’أَنِّيْذَبَحْتُكَ‘‘} was not, and with what Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did, the dream was fulfilled.
➋ { اِنَّاكَذٰلِكَنَجْزِيالْمُحْسِنِيْنَ :} That is, it is Our way that We test the righteous with such difficult commands, then keep them steadfast. When they pass this test, We raise their ranks, and We also deliver them from the trial in which We put them, just as We put Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in the trial of fire and brought him out safely from there and raised his rank. Similarly, in the trial of the sacrifice of his son, We saved the son and also raised the ranks.
