Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 10) {اِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ … :} That is, the devils cannot eavesdrop on any matter of the Exalted Assembly, except for that which a devil snatches suddenly, so in such a case, a blazing flame pursues him. Thus, sometimes that flame strikes the lower devil before he can convey the matter and destroys him, and sometimes after he has conveyed it; then that matter is transferred through several devils until it reaches a soothsayer, who mixes a hundred lies into it and spreads it among the people. Ustadh Muhammad Abduh (may Allah have mercy on him) writes: “This discussion has remained disputed among the philosophers and scholars as to whether these very stars also serve as the shooting stars, or whether those shooting stars are separate from them, or whether fire is produced from the heat of these stars and thus becomes a burning ember.” Shah Abdul Qadir writes: “From the light of these very stars, fire emerges with which the devils are struck, just as from the sun and a burning glass.” (Muwaddih) For a detailed exegesis of these verses, see Surah Al-Hijr (16–18), Ash-Shu'ara (210–212 and 222, 223), and Surah Al-Jinn (8, 9).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The exegesis of this verse has been done along with the previous verse.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

10. However, if any devil snatches away a word, a piercing flame pursues him [6].

Shooting Star:

For the explanation of this verse, consider the following hadith: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas ؓ says that: Once the Prophet ﷺ was sitting with the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) when suddenly a star shot across and there was light. The Prophet ﷺ asked the Companions ؓ: "In the days of ignorance, when such an event occurred, what did you say?" The Companions replied: "We used to say that a great man has died or been born." The Prophet ﷺ said: "It does not shoot because of anyone's life or death, rather, when our Lord decides a matter, the bearers of the Throne glorify Him, then the angels of the heavens who are near them, and then those who are nearer, all glorify Him. Until the sound of 'Subhan Allah' reaches the seventh heaven. Then the angels of the sixth heaven ask those of the seventh heaven: 'What has your Lord said?' They inform them. In this way, the lower heaven's angels keep asking the upper heaven's angels until this news reaches the sky of the world, and the devils try to snatch and listen, but they are struck, and whatever little they manage to bring, they cast upon their friends (soothsayers, etc.). The news is true, but they alter and add or subtract from it." [ترمذي۔ ابواب التفسير]
