(Ayah 37){ وَاٰيَةٌلَّهُمُالَّيْلُ … : ’’ نَسْلَخُ ‘‘ ’’سَلَخَيَسْلَخُ‘‘} (F, N) Skinning a goat. Among the evidences of the Resurrection and Allah Almighty’s power, the spatial evidence of the dead earth has been mentioned. Now, temporal evidences are being mentioned: that for them, there is another evidence of the Resurrection and also that Allah Almighty can do whatever He wills—the night, over which the veil of the day’s light was spread. Allah Almighty, to express His greatness, mentioned Himself with the plural pronoun, saying: « نَسْلَخُمِنْهُالنَّهَارَ » We draw out the day from the night, so suddenly they are left in darkness. That is, the One who brings light after darkness and darkness after light—how can it be difficult for Him to bring you back to life after death?

37. 1. That is, one of the signs of Allah's power is also that He separates the day from the night, by which darkness immediately prevails. In the same way, Allah separates the day from the night. The meaning of أَظْلَمَ is to enter into darkness. Just as the meanings of أَصْبَحَ, أَمْسَى, and أَظْهَرَ are to enter into the times of morning, evening, and noon.

[35] Mention of Night Before Day and the Natural Calendar:
When the Noble Quran mentioned day and night, it mentioned night first. From this, two things are understood: first, that the natural calendar is that the duration of a day and night (i.e., one day or 24 hours) is counted from sunset of one day to sunset of the next day. And this duration always remains 24 hours, whether it is summer or winter, and there is not even a second's difference in it. Second, that the original state was night and darkness; it is Allah's mercy that He created the sun for you and arranged for light as well. And in this, He placed countless other benefits for you. Even to the extent that if Allah had not arranged this system of night and day, then neither could any vegetation grow on this earth nor could any living being survive.
