But those who disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), for them will be the Fire of Hell. Neither will it have a complete killing effect on them so that they die, nor shall its torment be lightened for them. Thus do We requite every disbeliever!

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 36) ➊ { وَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لَهُمْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ :} After mentioning the fortunate ones who will enter Paradise, the wretched ones who will enter Hell are mentioned, that is, those people who denied this Book which We revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him) and of which Our chosen servants are the heirs, for them is the fire of Hell.

{لَا يُقْضٰى عَلَيْهِمْ فَيَمُوْتُوْا:} The people of Hell will consider death as a relief and will wish for it, but their wish will never be fulfilled. In several verses of the Noble Qur’an, it is mentioned that death will not come to the people of Hell so that they may be freed from the punishment, nor will their life be any life, as He said: « ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوْتُ فِيْهَا وَ لَا يَحْيٰى » [ الأعلٰی : ۱۳ ] “Then he will neither die therein nor live.” And see Surah Ibrahim (15–17) and Surah Az-Zukhruf (77). Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: خُلُوْدٌ فَلَا مَوْتَ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : «وَ اَنْذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْحَسْرَةِ اِذْ قُضِيَ الْاَمْرُ وَ هُمْ فِيْ غَفْلَةٍ وَّ هُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ» وَ هٰؤُلَاَءِ فِيْ غَفْلَةٍ أَهْلُ الدُّنْيَا « وَ هُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ» ] [ بخاري، التفسیر، سورۃ کھیعص، باب قولہ عزوجل : «و أنذرھم یوم الحسرۃ » : ۴۷۳۰ ] “Death will be brought in the form of a speckled ram, then a caller will call out: ‘O people of Paradise!’ They will raise their necks and look, he will say: ‘Do you recognize this?’ They will say: ‘Yes, this is death.’ And all of them will have seen it. Then he will call out: ‘O people of the Fire!’ They will raise their necks and look, he will say: ‘Do you recognize this?’ They will say: ‘Yes, this is death.’ And all of them will have seen it. Then it will be slaughtered, then he will say: ‘O people of Paradise! (Now) eternity and no death, and O people of the Fire! (Now) eternity and no death.’” Then he recited this verse: « وَ اَنْذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْحَسْرَةِ اِذْ قُضِيَ الْاَمْرُ وَ هُمْ فِيْ غَفْلَةٍ وَّ هُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ» [ مریم : ۳۹ ] “And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will be decided, while they are in heedlessness (i.e., the people of the world), and they do not believe.”

{ وَ لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ مِّنْ عَذَابِهَا :} One punishment for the disbelievers will be that their wish for death will never be fulfilled, and in addition to this, there will never be any respite in the punishment, nor any reduction in its severity, rather, moment by moment their punishment will continue to increase. See Surah Al-Baqarah (161, 162), Az-Zukhruf (74), Bani Isra’il (97), and Surah An-Naba’ (30).

{ كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِيْ كُلَّ كَفُوْرٍ:} We recompense every ungrateful one in this way who, instead of expressing gratitude for Our blessings and believing, insists on disbelief.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. 36. But those who disbelieve will have the Fire of Hell. Neither will they be finished off so that they die [40], nor will its punishment be lightened for them. This is how We reward every ungrateful one.

[40]
Death Being Slaughtered in the Form of a Ram:

It is mentioned in authentic ahadith that when the judgment between the believers and the disobedient has been completed in the Plain of Resurrection, a ram will be brought before everyone and slaughtered, and the people will be asked, "Do you know what this ram is?" All will say, "Yes, we know, this is death." Then an angel will address the people of Paradise and say, "Now you will remain in Paradise forever and death will never come to you." Then the same angel will address the people of Hell and say, "Now you will remain in Hell forever and death will never come to you." [مسلم کتاب الجنۃ وصفۃ نعیمھا واھلھا۔ باب جہنم]
This will be one punishment for the disbelievers and those who were ungrateful to Allah. The second punishment will be that there will never be any pause in their torment, nor will there be any reduction in the intensity of the punishment. Rather, instead of this, their torment will continue to increase moment by moment.
