Then We gave the Book (the Qur’ân) as inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose (the followers of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). Then of them are some who wrong their ownselves, and of them are some who follow a middle course, and of them are some who are, by Allâh’s Leave, foremost in good deeds. That (inheritance of the Qur’ân) - that is indeed a great grace.
ثُمَّ thumma Then

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 32) ➊ {ثُمَّ اَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتٰبَ الَّذِيْنَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا :} That is, We revealed this Book to you, then made those people its heirs whom We chose to be the heirs of this Book, that is, to be included in the Muslim Ummah, and this is Our will that We choose whom We wish, as He said: « اَللّٰهُ يَجْتَبِيْۤ اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَ يَهْدِيْۤ اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يُّنِيْبُ » [الشورٰی : ۱۳ ] "Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns (to Him)."

{ فَمِنْهُمْ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهٖ وَ مِنْهُمْ مُّقْتَصِدٌ … :} There are three types of individuals who inherit the Book of Allah, that is, among the Muslim Ummah: some who wrong themselves, whose good deeds are less than their sins; some who are moderate, whose good and bad deeds are nearly equal; and some who, by Allah's command, excel in good deeds. The blessing received by these three groups, that is, the inheritance of the Book of Allah and inclusion in the Muslim Ummah, is a very great favor.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

32. 1. By "the Book" is meant the Quran, and by "chosen servants" is meant the Ummah of Muhammad. That is, We have made the Ummah of Muhammad the inheritor of this Quran, whom We have chosen over other communities and bestowed honor and excellence upon them. This is almost the same meaning as in verse al-Baqarah 2:142.

32. 2. There are three categories of the Ummah of Muhammad. This is the first category, referring to those people who are negligent in some obligations and commit some prohibitions, or according to some, those who commit minor sins. They are called "those who wrong themselves" because, due to some of their shortcomings, they will deprive themselves of the highest rank that the other two categories will attain.

32. 3. This is the second category. That is, they perform mixed deeds, or according to some, they are those who are committed to obligations and avoid prohibitions, but sometimes deviate from supplications and also commit some forbidden things, or they are those who are righteous but not at the forefront.

32. 3. These are those who surpass the previous two in matters of religion.

32. 4. That is, making them inheritors of the Book and distinguishing them in honor and excellence (مصطفٰی).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

32. Then We made those whom We chose from among Our servants the inheritors of the Book [37]. Among them are some who wrong themselves, some who are moderate, and some who, by Allah’s permission, excel in good deeds. That is the great bounty.

Three Types of Muslims According to Their Deeds and Their Outcome:

In this verse, "the Book" refers to the Noble Quran. Its foremost inheritors are the group of the noble Companions ؓ. This verse establishes their great virtue. Then, after them, in order of rank and generation after generation, your entire Ummah is also the inheritor of this Book. Then among these inheritors, there are three categories or three types of groups. One is those who are wronging themselves. That is, they are not rebellious against Allah, nor are they polytheists. They are also advocates of following the Book and Sunnah. However, their deeds do not fully confirm their claim. They are indeed sinners, but they are certainly remorseful over their crimes. The second group is those who perform righteous deeds, yet sometimes sinful acts also occur from them. These are people of a middle rank. And there are those who rush forward towards every good deed. Their desire is always to gather as many virtues as possible. They also exercise as much caution as possible in avoiding sins. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri ؓ narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that all three types of people will enter Paradise. [ترمذي۔ ابواب التفسير]
And the difference among them will be that the most virtuous group will enter Paradise without reckoning. The middle group will be taken to account, but it will be an easy and superficial reckoning, and there will not be much questioning. And the third group will be held back, and for the entire Day of Judgment, which will be fifty thousand years long, they will not be able to enter Paradise. Then, at the end of this period, Allah Almighty will show mercy to them and they too will be granted permission to enter. However, they will certainly have to endure the hardships of the Day of Judgment, and Allah's grace will be upon all of them.
