Say: (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to polytheists, pagans) "Call upon those whom you assert (to be associate gods) besides Allâh, they possess not even an atom’s (or a small ant’s) weight either in the heavens or on the earth, nor have they any share in either, nor there is for Him any supporter from among them.

(Ayah 22) ➊ { قُلِادْعُواالَّذِيْنَزَعَمْتُمْ … :} The surah begins with the statement that whatever is in the heavens and the earth belongs only to Allah, and He alone is worthy of praise in this world and the Hereafter. Along with this, it is mentioned that the disbelievers deny the Hereafter, even though it will certainly come. After this, as an example of those who believe in the Hereafter and those who deny it, and their good and bad outcomes, the stories of Dawud and Sulaiman (peace be upon them) and the people of Saba are mentioned. After the mention of the Hereafter, from here the discussion of Tawheed begins again, with which the surah had started.
➋ { لَايَمْلِكُوْنَمِثْقَالَذَرَّةٍ …:} That is, Allah gives to whomever He wills, like Dawud and Sulaiman (peace be upon them), and destroys whomever He wills, like the people of Saba, because He is the owner of everything in the heavens and the earth. Now call upon your fabricated deities; can they help you in any way? No, never, because they can only help if they possess something, but they do not even own a speck in the heavens or the earth. See Surah Fatir (13), Al-Mu’minun (88, 89), An-Nahl (73), Yunus (106), and Surah Al-Jinn (21, 22).
➌ {وَمَالَهُمْفِيْهِمَامِنْشِرْكٍ :} This is a refutation of the idea that, even if they are not complete owners, they must have some share in ownership and authority. See Surah Fatir (40) and Surah Al-Ahqaf (4).
➍ { وَمَالَهٗمِنْهُمْمِّنْظَهِيْرٍ :} Nor is any one of them a helper of Allah, from whom Allah has ever taken help, or now takes help. See Surah Bani Isra’il (111) and Surah Al-Kahf (51).

22. 1. That is, of being a deity. Here, in "زعمتم", two objects are omitted: "زعمتموہم الھۃ", meaning those whom you consider as deities. 22. 2. That is, they have no power over good nor over evil, they have no ability to benefit anyone, nor to protect from harm. The mention of the heavens and the earth is not for generalization, because all external existents are contained within these. 22. 3. Neither in creation, nor in ownership, nor in administration. 22. 4. Who assists Allah in any matter whatsoever; rather, Allah alone, without any partner, is the owner of all powers and does all things without anyone’s cooperation.

22. (O Prophet!) Say to them: Call upon those whom you claim (to be gods) besides Allah [36]. They do not possess even an atom’s weight of authority in the heavens or the earth, nor do they have any share in them, nor is any of them a helper to Allah.
[36] That is, say to these disbelievers of Makkah that my Lord is the One who is the Creator of everything in the universe. Whoever is grateful to Him, He bestows blessings upon him. Prophet Dawud ؑ and Prophet Sulaiman ؑ were grateful servants of Allah, so Allah granted them countless blessings. And the people of "Saba" were ungrateful for the blessings given by Allah, so Allah wiped them off the face of the earth. Now you tell me, among the deities you call upon, can any of them do such things? If you have any doubt, then call upon them and see whether they can help anyone in a time of need. Understand this matter from this aspect as well: do they have any authority over anything in the universe? Neither have they created anything, nor do they have any share in the creation of anything. Nor do they have any control over apparent or hidden means, so how can they set right your affairs or benefit you in any way? Only that Being can bring benefit or harm who possesses such powers. And how can benefit or harm be expected from something that is itself powerless and utterly helpless?
