Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 11) ➊ { قُلْ يَتَوَفّٰىكُمْ مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِيْ وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ :} That is, you consider yourselves to be merely bodies and trunks, thinking that by mixing with the dust you have become equal to it. It is not so; rather, you are in reality "soul" (spirit), which the angel takes away; you do not become completely annihilated. (Mawaddih) From the word {’’ وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ‘‘}, it is understood that the angel only takes the soul of the one whom he is commanded to; he has no authority of his own.

➋ Because { ثُمَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُوْنَ:’’ اِلٰى رَبِّكُمْ ‘‘} is mentioned first, it has been translated as: "Then you will be returned to your Lord alone."

➌ The name of the Angel of Death is commonly known as Azrael, but this is not mentioned anywhere in the Book and Sunnah; it is merely an Israelite narration. In other verses, Allah Almighty has stated that not just one angel but several angels cause people to die, as He said: «{ حَتّٰۤى اِذَا جَآءَ اَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا وَ هُمْ لَا يُفَرِّطُوْنَ [ الأنعام : ۶۱ ] "Until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him, and they do not neglect their duty." See also Surah An-Nisa (97), Al-An'am (93), and Surah Muhammad (27). The scholars have explained that the angel appointed to seize souls is one, as mentioned here, but there are also assisting angels who help him in various ways. As mentioned in the lengthy hadith of Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding the soul's departure of the believer and the disbeliever, when the Angel of Death extracts the soul of the deceased, the other angels quickly take it from his hand and ascend towards the heavens. 11-1. That is, its very duty is that when your time of death arrives, it comes and seizes the soul.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Say, "The Angel of Death who is set over you will take your soul [12], then you will be returned to your Lord."

Rational Proof of Life After Death. The Self or Soul Will Not Perish:

This is a complete answer to the objection of the disbelievers, that is, the disbelievers who say that when "we" are mixed with the dust, then where does the concept of "we" come from? It is clear that the word "we" or "you" cannot be applied to a mere collection of flesh and bones. And after death, the flesh and bones do indeed mix with the dust. But this "we" or "you" cannot mix with the dust. This is the very thing that We breathed into you. Because of which you call yourselves "we" or "you." And this very thing or soul is taken into possession by the angel appointed by Us at the time of your death. Now your soul has returned to Us. The elements of the earth from which you were first created, from those very elements you can be created again. In fact, you can be created with even greater ease. And your soul, which is in Our possession, We will again place it into your bodies made from dust and present you before Us. At that time too, the same "we" will be present in you as is present today. And it is from this very "we" that your deeds will be questioned. It should be clear that here, by "soul" is not meant the animal soul, which is the cause of movement in every living being. Rather, here by "soul" is meant the human soul, by virtue of which man is distinguished from all other animals. He was granted intellect and consciousness, and by giving him will and choice, he was made the vicegerent of the earth.
