Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 96) {اِنَّ اَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ … :} This is the answer to the second objection of the Jews, that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) migrated to Sham, and all the prophets from his descendants were in Sham, and their qiblah was Bayt al-Maqdis, and the Muslims have abandoned this ancient qiblah and made the Ka'bah their qiblah, so how can they be followers of the religion of Ibrahim? The Qur'an has explained that the very first house of worship in the world is the Ka'bah, which is in "Bakkah." Bakkah is another name for Makkah, which Allah Almighty has honored with acceptance. There are many clear proofs of this. One of the proofs is that since the time of ignorance, it has been respected that even if the killer of someone's father enters it, he is not harmed, and in it is the Maqam Ibrahim, that is, the stone which is proof that its founder is Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and that this is indeed the qiblah of Ibrahim, because Bayt al-Maqdis was built forty years after the Ka'bah.
Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Which mosque was built first on the earth?" He said: "Al-Masjid al-Haram." I asked: "Then which one?" He said: "Al-Masjid al-Aqsa." I asked: "How much time was there between the two?" He said: "Forty years." Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

96. This is the answer to the second objection of the Jews; they used to say that Bayt al-Maqdis is the very first house of worship. Why did Muhammad ﷺ and his companions change their qiblah? In response to this, it is said that your claim is also incorrect. The first house that was built for the worship of Allah is the one that is in Makkah.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Indeed, the first House (of worship) established for mankind was that at Makkah, blessed and a guidance for all the worlds [84].

The First Qiblah is Indeed the Ka'bah:

This is the answer to another objection of the Jews. Their objection was that the Qiblah of all the prophets has always been Bayt al-Maqdis, and all the prophets migrated there. Therefore, this place is superior to the Ka'bah, and now that the Muslims have made the Ka'bah their Qiblah instead of Bayt al-Maqdis, they have turned away from the Millat-e-Ibrahim. Allah Almighty answered this objection by stating that the very first house built for the worship of people was the Baytullah, not Bayt al-Maqdis. Because Baytullah is the house which Prophet Ibrahim ؑ built as a center for people for the worship of Allah alone, while Bayt al-Maqdis was built by Prophet Sulaiman ؑ four hundred years after the death of Prophet Musa ؑ, and it was during the era of Prophet Sulaiman ؑ that it was made the Qiblah for the people of Tawheed. Therefore, the first Qiblah is actually the Ka'bah. The answer to the objection of the Jews regarding the change of Qiblah has already been mentioned in Surah Baqarah [آيت 142 تا 150]. But since the Jews continued to repeat this objection again and again even after that, their objection has once again been answered here from a historical perspective.
