O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Why do you dispute about Ibrâhîm (Abraham), while the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) were not revealed till after him? Have you then no sense?

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 65) {يٰۤاَهْلَ الْكِتٰبِ لِمَ تُحَآجُّوْنَ …:} The Jews claimed that Abraham (peace be upon him) was a Jew, and the Christians claimed that he was a Christian, and this was something that was clearly false. The time of Abraham (peace be upon him) was thousands of years before Moses (peace be upon him); the Torah and the Gospel were revealed long after him, so how could he have been a Jew or a Christian? Is this something over which intelligent people should be engaged in mutual disputes? If, from our own Ummah, any group that was formed later and is not established upon: { ”مَا اَنَا عَلَيْهِ وَ اَصْحَابِيْ“} and claims that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was from our group, then it should be said to them that your foundation was laid much later, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had already departed from this world, so how could he have been included in your group?

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

65. 1. The meaning of disputing about Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) is that both Jews and Christians claimed that Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) was upon their religion, even though the Torah, in which the Jews believe, and the Gospel, which the Christians accept, were both revealed hundreds of years after Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام). So how could Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) be a Jew or a Christian? There was a gap of one thousand years between Hazrat Ibrahim and Musa (علیہما السلام), and a gap of two thousand years between Hazrat Ibrahim and Isa (علیہما السلام). (Qurtubi)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

O People of the Book! Why do you argue about Abraham (that he was either a Jew or a Christian), when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him [58]? Do you not then understand?

[58]
The Claim of Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ Being a Jew or a Christian:

Both the Jews and the Christians accepted Hazrat Ibrahim ؑ as their leader. Despite this, there were severe differences between them. Furthermore, the claim of the Jews was that Hazrat Ibrahim ؑ followed their religion, meaning he was a Jew, and the Christians claimed that he was upon their religion, meaning he was a Christian. Allah Almighty said to them: O blind of intellect! Jews are those who claim to follow the Torah, and Christians are those who claim to follow the Gospel, and both these books were revealed long after the death of Hazrat Ibrahim ؑ. So how could Hazrat Ibrahim ؑ be a Jew or a Christian?
