And there are, certainly, among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), those who believe in Allâh and in that which has been revealed to you, and in that which has been revealed to them, humbling themselves before Allâh. They do not sell the Verses of Allâh for a little price, for them is a reward with their Lord. Surely, Allâh is Swift in account.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 199) {وَ اِنَّ مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ … : } In this verse, mention is made of that group among the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) who sincerely became Muslims. By mentioning their faith and qualities of faith, Allah Almighty distinguished them from the other People of the Book, that these people believe in Allah Almighty, believe in the previous scriptures and the Noble Qur’an, are God-fearing, do not seek worldly gain in exchange for Allah’s verses, and for them their reward is secured with Allah, rather, they have a double reward, as is mentioned in Surah Al-Hadid (28). These qualities were very rare among the Jews. Among the Jewish scholars, only a few people like Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) possessed these qualities, whose number did not exceed ten. However, many among the Christians accepted faith, among whom was the king of Abyssinia, Ashamah Najashi. Upon receiving news of his death, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his funeral prayer in absentia in Madinah. Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

199. 1. In this verse, mention is made of that group among the People of the Book who were honored to believe in the Messenger ﷺ. By mentioning their faith and qualities of faith, Allah Almighty distinguished them from the other People of the Book, whose very mission was to conspire against Islam, the Prophet of Islam, and the Muslims, to distort and alter the divine verses, and to do so for temporary and fleeting worldly interests. Allah Almighty said that these believing People of the Book are not like that; rather, they are those who fear Allah and do not sell the verses of Allah for a small price. Hafiz Ibn Kathir has written that the believing People of the Book mentioned in the verse, the number of Jews among them did not even reach ten, but a large number of Christians became Muslim and adopted the true religion. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

199. Among the People of the Book are some [200] who truly believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to you (the Qur’an) and what was revealed to them. They humble themselves before Allah and do not sell the verses of Allah for a small price. Their reward is with their Lord. Surely, Allah is swift in reckoning.

[200] Among the Jews, there were some people who were God-fearing, avoided unlawful earnings, were trustworthy, and had a good nature. Although such people were very few, they did exist, and their mention has already passed in Surah Al-Imran, verses 113 to 115. These are the people who believed in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and such people are deserving of double reward: one for believing in their own prophet and book, and the other for believing in the Last Prophet and the Quran. Thus, the Prophet ﷺ has said that three types of people will receive double reward: first, the one who has a slave-girl, gives her good education and training, teaches her manners, and then marries her; second, the Jew or Christian who believed in his own prophet, and then also believed in Muhammad ﷺ; third, the slave who fulfills the rights of both Allah and his master.
