And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allâh has bestowed on them of His Bounty (Wealth) think that it is good for them (and so they do not pay the obligatory Zakât ). Nay, it will be worse for them; the things which they covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allâh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allâh is Well-Acquainted with all that you do.

(Ayah 180) ➊ {وَلَايَحْسَبَنَّالَّذِيْنَيَبْخَلُوْنَ …:} Above, in the context of encouraging jihad, emphasis has been placed on sacrificing life, and those who flee from it to save their lives have been warned. Now here, emphasis is being placed on financial sacrifice in jihad, and miserliness is being condemned. The purpose is that just as these hypocrites love their lives, in the same way, they also love their wealth, and those who neglect to fulfill the rights of wealth, on the Day of Resurrection, this very wealth will become a calamity for them. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever Allah gives some wealth to, and he does not pay its zakat, on the Day of Resurrection, his wealth will be turned into a bald snake and it will be made into a collar for his neck. It will seize him by both his jaws and say: 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.'" Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited this verse. ➋ Miserliness is the name of not fulfilling those rights that are obligatory upon a person, such as providing for one's family, hospitality to guests, preparation for jihad, zakat, ushr, etc. Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: [ وَاَيُّدَائٍاَدْوَأُمِنَالْبُخْلِ ] "What disease can be greater than miserliness?" [ بخاری، المغازی، باب قصۃ عمان والبحرین : ۴۳۸۳ ]
➌ {وَلِلّٰهِمِيْرَاثُ … :} That is, when everything in the heavens and the earth is the inheritance and ownership of Allah alone, then why do you show miserliness in the wealth of which you have apparently been made heirs? Shah Abdul Qadir, may Allah have mercy on him, writes: "Allah is the inheritor; in the end, you will die and the wealth will become His. If you give with your own hand, you will earn reward." 180. 1. In this, the miser is described who does not spend from the wealth given by Allah in the way of Allah, not even extracting the obligatory zakat from it. In a Sahih Bukhari hadith, it is mentioned that on the Day of Resurrection, a venomous and extremely terrifying snake will be made and placed around his neck like a collar. That snake will seize his cheeks and say, "I am your wealth, I am your treasure."

180. And let not those who are stingy with what Allah has given them of His bounty think that it is good for them; rather, it is bad for them. That with which they were stingy will be hung around their necks [178] on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the inheritance [179] of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
[178] The Warning of Sin for Not Giving Zakat:
In verse 177, it was stated that abundance of blessings in this world is not proof that Allah is pleased with someone. Wealth and riches can only be called a blessing of Allah when the rights of wealth are fulfilled from it, and if one acts with miserliness, then this very wealth becomes a cause of punishment. Thus, it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairahؓ that whoever Allah grants wealth, and then he does not pay zakat from it, on the Day of Judgment his wealth will take the form of a bald snake with two black spots over its eyes. That snake will become a collar around his neck and will seize both his jaws and say, "I am your wealth, I am your treasure." Then the Prophet recited this verse. [بخاری، کتاب التفسیر، نیز کتاب الزکوٰۃ، باب اثم مانع الزکوٰۃ وقول اللہ :__QUR_0__ ]
[179] Everything is the Inheritance of Allah:
That is, the wealth you leave behind after death will go to your heirs, and ultimately it will return to the inheritance of Allah. Thus, it is mentioned in a hadith that the Prophetﷺ said: "A person keeps saying, 'This is my wealth, this is my wealth,' whereas his wealth is only that which he has eaten, worn, or given in the way of Allah. The rest of the wealth will be for his heirs." Also, someone asked the Prophetﷺ, "Which charity is the best?" Heﷺ replied, "That which you give while you are healthy, desiring wealth, hoping for riches, and fearing poverty. Do not delay so long that the soul reaches the throat and then you say, 'Give so much to so-and-so and so much to so-and-so,' for by then it has already become the property of so-and-so."
