Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

About the Muslims who were martyred in the Battle of Uhud, the hypocrites expressed such views so that people would be discouraged from participating in jihad. The Quran refuted their doubt by stating that if indeed staying at home could save you from death, then try to avert the death that is to befall you.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

168. 1. This is the statement of the hypocrites: "If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed." Allah Almighty said: "If you are truthful, then avert death from yourselves." The meaning is that no one can escape destiny. Death, wherever, however, and in whichever place it is destined to come, will certainly come. Therefore, avoiding and fleeing from jihad and fighting in the way of Allah cannot save anyone from the grip of death.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

168. These are the people who themselves stayed behind and said to their brothers, "If you had obeyed us, you would not have been killed [168]." Say to them, "If you are truthful in your claim, then avert death from yourselves."

[168] That is, firstly, they themselves did not participate in jihad. Secondly, they began to reproach their brothers who were taking part in jihad, saying that if you had listened to us, our kinsmen would not have been killed today. Say to them: If you know a way to escape or avert death and are so certain of it, then when death comes to you, try using such a method. In reality, such statements fall under objecting to Allah’s decree. But where did the hypocrites have faith that one should be surprised at such words from them?
