Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 157) That is, if your dying or being killed is in the way of Allah, then this will certainly become a cause of forgiveness and mercy for you, and this forgiveness and mercy is better than the wealth and possessions for the accumulation of which these disbelievers and hypocrites are constantly Jihad; this is the second answer to their doubt. In { ”لَمَغْفِرَةٌ“ } and {”وَ رَحْمَةٌ“}, the tanween is for diminution, therefore the translation is "a little forgiveness and mercy."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

157. 1. Death is inevitable in every case, but if death comes in such a way that after it a person becomes deserving of Allah's forgiveness and mercy, then this is far better than the worldly wealth and possessions for which a person spends his life accumulating. Therefore, one should not avoid Jihad in the way of Allah; rather, there should be eagerness and desire for it, as in this way Allah's mercy and forgiveness become certain, provided it is done with sincerity.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

157. And if you are killed in the cause of Allah or die, then surely Allah’s forgiveness and mercy are better than all that they accumulate [152].

[152] If a person is killed in the way of Allah or dies naturally at home, in both cases he will be presented before Allah. Now, the purpose of the life or prolonged living of a hypocrite or disbeliever is only that he may accumulate as many worldly benefits and wealth as possible. In contrast, the forgiveness and mercy of Allah that a believer will receive in both cases is a thousand times better than the wealth and riches which these people are busy collecting day and night, being completely heedless of their Hereafter.
