Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 139) {وَ لَا تَهِنُوْا وَ لَا تَحْزَنُوْا … :} The above verse { ”قَدْ خَلَتْ“ } was a prelude to this glad tiding and { ”وَ اَنْتُمُ الْاَعْلَوْنَ“ } serves as a kind of evidence that the history of previous communities bears witness to the fact that although the people of falsehood did gain dominance, it was temporary; in the end, they were destroyed and ruined. The same is your case, so do not act with any kind of { ”وَهْنٌ“ } (weakness), nor grieve; if you are believers, you will be the ones to prevail. Accordingly, after this, the Muslims continued to prevail in every battle.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

139. Do not become weak due to the loss you suffered in the previous battle, nor grieve over it, because if you possess the strength of faith within you, then you alone will remain dominant and successful. In this, Allah has clarified the real secret of the Muslims’ strength and a foundation of their success. Thus, it is a fact that after this, Muslims remained victorious in every encounter.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

139. (O Muslims!) Do not lose heart nor grieve, and you will be the uppermost if you are (true) believers [125].

[125] After these instructions and directives, now again the account of the Battle of Uhud is being mentioned, and this verse was probably revealed at the time when, in the Battle of Uhud, the Muslims, having suffered defeat once, were falling into despair and disheartenment. Although its apparent address seems to be towards the Mujahideen of Uhud, nevertheless Allah Almighty has stated a general principle for all times: that if you are truly believers and, instead of becoming lazy and sorrowful, you place your trust in Allah and remain patient, then Allah Almighty will surely grant you dominance. And if you are overcome and subdued, then seek out the reasons due to which this situation has arisen.
