ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلذِّلَّةُ أَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُوٓا۟ إِلَّا بِحَبْلٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَحَبْلٍ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَبَآءُو بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوا۟ وَّكَانُوا۟ يَعْتَدُونَ ﴿112﴾
Indignity is put over them wherever they may be, except when under a covenant (of protection) from Allâh, and from men; they have drawn on themselves the Wrath of Allâh, and destruction is put over them. This is because they disbelieved in the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh and killed the Prophets without right. This is because they disobeyed (Allâh) and used to transgress beyond bounds (in Allâh’s disobedience, crimes and sins).
ضُرِبَتْ ḍuribat Struck
عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu on them
ٱلذِّلَّةُ l-dhilatu the humiliation
أَيْنَ ayna wherever
مَا that
ثُقِفُوٓا۟ thuqifū they are found
إِلَّا illā except
بِحَبْلٍۢ biḥablin with a rope
مِّنَ mina from
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah
وَحَبْلٍۢ waḥablin and a rope

ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the people
وَبَآءُو wabāū And they incurred
بِغَضَبٍۢ bighaḍabin wrath
مِّنَ mina from
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah
وَضُرِبَتْ waḍuribat and struck
عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu on them
ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚ l-maskanatu the poverty
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum (is) because
كَانُوا۟ kānū they used to
يَكْفُرُونَ yakfurūna disbelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِ biāyāti in (the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
وَيَقْتُلُونَ wayaqtulūna and they killed
ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ l-anbiyāa the Prophets
بِغَيْرِ bighayri without
حَقٍّۢ ۚ ḥaqqin right
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
بِمَا bimā (is) because
عَصَوا۟ ʿaṣaw they disobeyed
وَّكَانُوا۟ wakānū and they used to
يَعْتَدُونَ yaʿtadūna transgress

(Ayah 112) ➊ {ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ …:} That is, along with being overcome, humiliation was also imposed upon them. (See Surah Al-Baqarah: 61) Two ways of protection from this humiliation of the Jews have been mentioned: one is that they come under the protection of Allah, which means that they accept Islam, or accept to live as dhimmis by paying jizyah in the Islamic state. The second way is that they obtain the protection of people. Two meanings of this have been stated: one is that, instead of the Islamic state, ordinary Muslims grant them protection, as every Muslim has this right, and the rulers of the Islamic state and all Muslims have been instructed not to reject even the protection given by an ordinary Muslim, even by a woman. The second is that they obtain the backing of a major non-Muslim power, because { ”النَّاسِ“ } is general, and includes both Muslims and non-Muslims.

{ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا يَكْفُرُوْنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ :} That is, the effect of disobedience and transgression was that they began to disbelieve and unjustly kill the prophets, then as a result of disbelief and killing the prophets, Allah’s wrath descended, they became humiliated and needy, and lost their government and state. In summary, the reason for humiliation, wrath, and poverty is disbelief and killing of the prophets, and the reason for disbelief and killing of the prophets is their disobedience and transgression. Thus, {”ذٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا“} refers to the cause of the cause.

112. 1 The humiliation and misery imposed upon the Jews as a result of Allah's wrath can be temporarily averted in two ways. One is that they seek Allah's protection, that is, they accept Islam or agree to live as dhimmis by paying jizya in the Islamic state. The second way is that they obtain the protection of people.

112. Wherever they are found, humiliation is decreed for them, except when they seek refuge under Allah’s protection or the protection of other people [102]. They have incurred the wrath of Allah and poverty has been imposed upon them. This is because they used to reject the signs of Allah and kill the prophets unjustly. This was because they disobeyed and transgressed the limits set by Allah.

The Foundation of the Present Israeli Government:

In this verse, Allah Almighty has described the reasons for the humiliation and disgrace of the Jews. First of all, they chose the path of disobedience to Allah and began to transgress the limits set by Allah. These sins affected their nature in such a way that they became emboldened to commit major crimes, such as outright denying the signs of Allah, concealing them, altering them, and even going so far as to kill the prophets. Then, when they reached the extreme of this wretchedness, Allah’s wrath descended upon them, as a result of which humiliation, disgrace, and poverty were destined for them forever. Two ways to avoid this were mentioned: one is to seek refuge under Allah’s responsibility. One meaning of this is to become Muslim, and the other is to live under the protection of a Muslim government. The second is to live under the shadow of non-Muslim governments. Thus, we see that until 1947, despite being one of the wealthiest nations in the world, they continued to wander the earth in exile. In 1947, with the help of three Christian governments—Britain, France, and America—they established their own separate government on a small piece of land, which many countries have not recognized to this day. The Christian governments, as an act of revenge against the Muslims, established this government among the Muslim countries, stabbing a dagger into the heart of the Muslims. Even today, Israel enjoys the full support of America, and it is only due to this support that it continues to exist. If America’s shadow were lifted from over it, its existence would immediately come to an end. But it is regrettable that just as the Jews are a nation upon whom wrath has descended, today’s Muslims, due to their disobedience to Allah, have also become a nation upon whom wrath has descended. Thus, Allah’s punishment has descended upon the Muslims in the form of Israel, and as long as the Muslims do not demonstrate mutual unity and harmony, and continue to quarrel and fight among themselves, this punishment will remain imposed upon them.
