لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿66﴾
So that they become ingrate for that which We have given them, and that they take their enjoyment (as a warning and a threat), but they will come to know.
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ liyakfurū So that they may deny
بِمَآ bimā [in] what
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ātaynāhum We have given them
وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ waliyatamattaʿū and they may enjoy (themselves)
فَسَوْفَ fasawfa But soon
يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna they will know

{لِيَكْفُرُوْا بِمَاۤ اٰتَيْنٰهُمْ … :} That is, after being saved, they gain nothing from committing shirk except that they continue to be ungrateful for the blessings We have granted and benefit only from the pleasures of this world, while they have no share in the Hereafter. 66-1 This "laam" is *kayy*, which is for causation. That is, after being saved, their associating partners is so that they may be ungrateful for the favor and continue to enjoy the pleasures of the world. Because if they were not ungrateful, they would remain steadfast upon sincerity and would always call upon Allah alone. Although their intention is not to disbelieve, the result of committing shirk again is disbelief nonetheless.

So that they may deny [98] what We have given them and enjoy themselves. Soon they will come to know (the outcome).

Seeking Help from Others:

That is, what could be a greater act of ingratitude than this: that all their necessities of life are provided by Allah Almighty, and when their lives are in danger, it is Allah alone who delivers them from that calamity. But when times are comfortable, not only do people forget Allah, but they also begin to associate others with Him in His powers. This verse refers to the polytheists of the Prophetic era, who at least in times of distress would call upon Allah alone. But today's polytheist has surpassed even those polytheists; he believes that his spiritual leader (pir) is aware of all his affairs and circumstances, and that if he calls upon him in times of difficulty, he immediately comes to his aid. Even when facing death, he chants slogans like "Ya Bahā’ al-Haqq, come to my rescue," and calls upon his pir for help. Why does this happen? For the reason, see the footnote number 34 of Surah Yunus.
