Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 55) ➊ {يَوْمَيَغْشٰىهُمُالْعَذَابُمِنْفَوْقِهِمْ:} This is the detail of the encompassing of Hell, that the punishment will surround the disbelievers from above them and from beneath their feet, that is, from every side, as He said: «{ لَهُمْمِّنْجَهَنَّمَمِهَادٌوَّمِنْفَوْقِهِمْغَوَاشٍ }»[الأعراف : ۴۱ ] "For them there will be bedding of Hell and coverings above them." And He said: «{ لَهُمْمِّنْفَوْقِهِمْظُلَلٌمِّنَالنَّارِوَمِنْتَحْتِهِمْظُلَلٌ }»[ الزمر : ۱۶ ] "For them there will be canopies of fire above them and (canopies) from beneath them as well." And He said: «{ لَوْيَعْلَمُالَّذِيْنَكَفَرُوْاحِيْنَلَايَكُفُّوْنَعَنْوُّجُوْهِهِمُالنَّارَوَلَاعَنْظُهُوْرِهِمْ }»[ الأنبیاء : ۳۹ ] "If only those who disbelieved knew the time when they will not be able to ward off the fire from their faces nor from their backs."
➋ { وَيَقُوْلُذُوْقُوْامَاكُنْتُمْتَعْمَلُوْنَ:} That is, along with the punishment of fire, there will be the additional punishment of rebuke and scolding, as He said: «{يَوْمَيُسْحَبُوْنَفِيالنَّارِعَلٰىوُجُوْهِهِمْذُوْقُوْامَسَّسَقَرَ }»[ القمر : ۴۸ ] "The Day when they will be dragged on their faces into the Fire, (it will be said), 'Taste the touch of the Fire.'" And He said: «{ يَوْمَيُدَعُّوْنَاِلٰىنَارِجَهَنَّمَدَعًّا (13) هٰذِهِالنَّارُالَّتِيْكُنْتُمْبِهَاتُكَذِّبُوْنَ (14) اَفَسِحْرٌهٰذَاۤاَمْاَنْتُمْلَاتُبْصِرُوْنَ (15) اِصْلَوْهَافَاصْبِرُوْۤااَوْلَاتَصْبِرُوْاسَوَآءٌعَلَيْكُمْاِنَّمَاتُجْزَوْنَمَاكُنْتُمْتَعْمَلُوْنَ }»[ الطور : ۱۳ تا ۱۶ ] "The Day they will be pushed into the Fire of Hell with a violent push. This is the Fire which you used to deny. Is this magic, or do you not see? Enter it, then be patient or be impatient, it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed for what you used to do." The doer of {’’ يَقُوْلُ ‘‘} can be Allah Himself, that Allah will say this to them, or the angel of punishment, or the punishment itself is the doer, which will say to them, "Taste the recompense of your deeds," as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَنْآتَاهُاللّٰهُمَالاًفَلَمْيُؤَدِّزَكَاتَهُمُثِّلَلَهُيَوْمَالْقِيَامَةِشُجَاعًاأَقْرَعَلَهُزَبِيْبَتَانِيُطَوَّقُهُيَوْمَالْقِيَامَةِثُمَّيَأْخُذُبِلِهْزِمَتَيْهِ،يَعْنِيْبِشِدْقَيْهِ،ثُمَّيَقُوْلُأَنَامَالُكَ،أَنَاكَنْزُكَثُمَّتَلاَ: «{ وَلَايَحْسَبَنَّالَّذِيْنَيَبْخَلُوْنَ }» ][ آل عمران : ۱۸۰ ][ بخاري، الزکاۃ، باب إثم مانع الزکاۃ … : ۱۴۰۳، عن أبي ہریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ] "Whoever Allah gives wealth to and he does not pay its zakah, then on the Day of Resurrection, his wealth will be made into a bald-headed snake with two black spots over its eyes, and it will be made into a collar around his neck on the Day of Resurrection. Then it will seize his jaws and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.'" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: «{ وَلَايَحْسَبَنَّالَّذِيْنَيَبْخَلُوْنَبِمَاۤاٰتٰىهُمُاللّٰهُمِنْفَضْلِهٖهُوَخَيْرًالَّهُمْبَلْهُوَشَرٌّلَّهُمْسَيُطَوَّقُوْنَمَابَخِلُوْابِهٖيَوْمَالْقِيٰمَةِوَلِلّٰهِمِيْرَاثُالسَّمٰوٰتِوَالْاَرْضِوَاللّٰهُبِمَاتَعْمَلُوْنَخَبِيْرٌ }»[ آل عمران : ۱۸۰ ] "And those who are stingy with what Allah has given them out of His bounty should never think that it is good for them; rather, it is bad for them. Soon, what they were stingy with will be made a collar around their necks on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is fully aware of what you do."

55. On the Day when the punishment will cover them from above and from beneath their feet, and Allah [87] will say, "Taste now what you used to do."
[87] One meaning of ﴿يَقُوْلُ﴾ is the same as mentioned in the translation, and another meaning could be that the punishment of Hell itself will say this to them. Thus, Hazrat Abu Hurairah ؓ says that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever Allah gives wealth to, and he does not pay its zakat, then on the Day of Resurrection, his wealth will be turned into a bald snake, with two black spots over its eyes. It will become a collar around his neck, then it will seize both his cheeks and say: ‘I am your wealth, I am your treasure.’” [بخاری۔ کتاب الزکوۃ باب اثم مانع الزکوٰۃ]
