وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَمِنْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿47﴾
And thus We have sent down the Book (i.e. this Qur’an) to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and those whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) aforetime] believe therein as also do some of these (who are present with you now like ‘Abdullâh bin Salâm) and none but the disbelievers reject Our Ayât [(proofs, signs, verses, lessons, etc.,) and deny Our Oneness of Lordship and Our Oneness of worship and Our Oneness of Our Names and Qualities: i.e. Islâmic Monotheism].
وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhālika And thus
أَنزَلْنَآ anzalnā We (have) revealed
إِلَيْكَ ilayka to you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ l-kitāba the Book
فَٱلَّذِينَ fa-alladhīna So those
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ātaynāhumu We gave [them]
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book
يُؤْمِنُونَ yu'minūna believe
بِهِۦ ۖ bihi therein
وَمِنْ wamin And among
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ hāulāi these
مَن man (are some) who
يُؤْمِنُ yu'minu believe
بِهِۦ ۚ bihi therein
وَمَا wamā And none
يَجْحَدُ yajḥadu reject
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ biāyātinā Our Verses
إِلَّا illā except
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers

(Ayah 47) ➊ { وَ كَذٰلِكَ اَنْزَلْنَاۤ اِلَيْكَ الْكِتٰبَ :} That is, just as We sent down the Book to Musa (Moses) عليه السلام and other prophets before you, in the same way We have sent down this Book to you.

{ فَالَّذِيْنَ اٰتَيْنٰهُمُ الْكِتٰبَ يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِهٖ:} “Those to whom We gave the Book” does not refer to all the People of the Book, because whoever did not read the Book at all, or did not try to understand it, or tried to mold it according to their own desires and engaged in distortion and alteration, then in reality, they are not included among those who were given the Book, because they did not take it as it should have been taken. That is, those people to whom We gave the Book before and who truly follow it, they believe in this Book (the Qur’an), because the content of both is fundamentally the same, and there is no virtue in the previous books that is not present in this one. Rather, this Book is a guardian (Muhaimin) over the previous books and is an everlasting miracle, so why would the true People of the Book not believe in it?

{ وَ مِنْ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ مَنْ يُّؤْمِنُ بِهٖ :} That is, among these Arab polytheists as well, many people are believing in it and will continue to do so, who, after the truth becomes clear, accept it.

➍ The meaning of { وَ مَا يَجْحَدُ بِاٰيٰتِنَاۤ اِلَّا الْكٰفِرُوْنَ : ’’ جُحُوْدٌ ‘‘} is to deny something despite having knowledge of it. (See Naml: 14) Whereas the word {’’كُفْرٌ‘‘} comes in contrast to faith; its meaning is also ingratitude, denial, and concealment. (Qamus) The literal meaning of {’’آيَاتِنَا ‘‘} is signs; what is meant is the Qur’an, because all its verses are signs and miracles from Allah Almighty, for which the entire universe cannot produce anything comparable, and they are so clear and manifest that none will deny them except those who, despite knowing the truth, conceal it and deny it.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. 47-1. By this is meant Abdullah bin Salam and others. By "giving of the Book" is meant acting upon it, as if those who do not act upon it, it is as though the Book was not given to them at all.

47-2. By these are meant the people of Makkah, among whom some people had embraced faith.

47. And (O Prophet!) thus We have revealed this Book (the Qur’an) to you. Those to whom We gave the Book before believe in it, and among these (people of Makkah) [79] there are some who believe in it. And it is only the disbelievers who deny Our signs.

[79] That is, just as We gave the Book to Musa (Moses) ؑ, in exactly the same way We have revealed this Book to you. And among the People of the Book, those who are fair-minded, understanding that the source of both books is the same, have believed in the Quran, and among the people of Makkah as well, there are some fair-minded individuals who, upon hearing the arguments of the Quran, are immediately affected by it and accept faith. Thus, for the guidance of a person, this Book lacks neither transmitted proofs nor rational arguments. Only those people deny it who are not willing to accept the truth by abandoning their religious prejudices, nor are they ready to accept any kind of restriction on their desires and unbridled freedom.
