34-1. By this heavenly punishment, the same punishment is meant through which the people of Lot were destroyed. It is said that Jibreel ؑ uprooted their towns from the earth and took them up to the heights of the sky, then turned them upside down upon them. After that, a rain of stones of baked clay fell upon them, and that place was transformed into a foul-smelling lake (Ibn Kathir).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

34. We are surely going to send down a punishment from the sky upon the people of this town, because they have been committing wickedness. [52]

[52] Allah's punishment is to descend upon them at dawn. Therefore, do not delay, and take your companions and reach a considerable distance from this town before morning arrives. We have come to inflict the most severe punishment upon this wicked people.
