وَلَمَّا جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مُهْلِكُوٓا۟ أَهْلِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِينَ ﴿31﴾
And when Our Messengers came to Ibrâhîm (Abraham) with the glad tidings they said: "Verily, we are going to destroy the people of this [Lût (Lot’s)] town (i.e. the town of Sodom in Palestine); truly, its people have been Zâlimûn [wrong-doers, polytheists disobedient to Allâh, and who belied their Messenger Lût (Lot)]."
وَلَمَّا walammā And when
جَآءَتْ jāat came
رُسُلُنَآ rusulunā Our messengers
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ib'rāhīma (to) Ibrahim
بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ bil-bush'rā with the glad tidings
قَالُوٓا۟ qālū they said
إِنَّا innā Indeed, we
مُهْلِكُوٓا۟ muh'likū (are) going to destroy
أَهْلِ ahli (the) people
هَـٰذِهِ hādhihi (of) this
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖ l-qaryati town
إِنَّ inna Indeed
أَهْلَهَا ahlahā its people
كَانُوا۟ kānū are
ظَـٰلِمِينَ ẓālimīna wrongdoers

31-1. That is, the prayer of Hazrat Lut (علیہ السلام) was accepted and Allah Almighty sent angels to destroy them. Those angels first went to Hazrat Ibrahim (علیہ السلام) and gave him the glad tidings of Ishaq (علیہ السلام) and Yaqub (علیہ السلام), and also informed him that we have come to destroy the town of Lut (علیہ السلام).

31. And when Our messengers [48] brought Abraham the good news (of Isaac), they said, "We are going to destroy the people of this town (Sodom), for its inhabitants are wrongdoers."

[48] Allah Almighty accepted the prayer of Prophet Lutؑ. And to destroy the settlement of this wicked nation and to grant deliverance to Prophet Lutؑ, He sent His angels. First, these angels came in human form to Prophet Ibrahimؑ. Prophet Ibrahimؑ brought a roasted calf for their hospitality. But when these newly arrived guests did not even reach out towards the food, Prophet Ibrahimؑ felt afraid in his heart. Then, when the angels informed him that they were angels and had come to give him the glad tidings of a son, Prophet Ibrahimؑ's fear went away. And this incident has been mentioned in detail at several places.
