فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ مَكْرِهِمْ أَنَّا دَمَّرْنَـٰهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ﴿51﴾
Then see how was the end of their plot! Verily! We destroyed them and their nation, all together.
فَٱنظُرْ fa-unẓur Then see
كَيْفَ kayfa how
كَانَ kāna was
عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end
مَكْرِهِمْ makrihim (of) their plot
أَنَّا annā that We
دَمَّرْنَـٰهُمْ dammarnāhum destroyed them
وَقَوْمَهُمْ waqawmahum and their people
أَجْمَعِينَ ajmaʿīna all

51-1. That is, We did not only destroy the aforementioned nine leaders, but We also completely destroyed their entire nation. Because that nation was fully involved with them in the real cause of destruction, which was disbelief, and although in practice they could not participate in their plan of murder—because this plan was secret—yet it was exactly according to their intention and heartfelt desire. Therefore, they too were as if partners in the plot that the nine individuals had devised against Hazrat Salih ؑ and his family. That is why the entire nation was deemed deserving of destruction.
