Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The root of {قَالَعِفْرِيْتٌمِّنَالْجِنِّاَنَااٰتِيْكَبِهٖ: … :’’ عِفْرِيْتٌ ‘‘} is {’’ اَلْعَفَرُ ‘‘}, which means soil. In Tafsir Maraghi it is stated: {’’ اَلْعِفْرِيْتُمِنَالْبَشَرِ : اَلْخَبِيْثُالْمَاكِرُالَّذِيْيُعَفِّرُأَقْرَانَهُ ‘‘} "That wicked deceiver who throws his opponents to the ground." It means one who is powerful and wicked. A very powerful and wicked jinn said, "Before you rise from your assembly, I will bring that throne to you, and I have full strength to bring it and am trustworthy," meaning I will not betray any diamond, jewel, or valuable thing. It appears that his reputation was not good, so he had to present his own clarification. (And Allah knows best.) There were many such devils present with Sulaiman (peace be upon him), as He said: «{ وَمِنَالشَّيٰطِيْنِمَنْيَّغُوْصُوْنَلَهٗوَيَعْمَلُوْنَعَمَلًادُوْنَذٰلِكَ }»[ الأنبیاء : ۸۲ ] "And many devils who dived for him and did other work besides that."
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
39-1. By this is meant the assembly which Prophet Sulaiman (AS) used to hold from morning till midday for the hearing of cases.
39-2. From this it is understood that he was certainly a jinn, whom Allah Almighty has endowed with extraordinary powers compared to humans, because for any human, no matter how strong he may be, it is simply not possible for him to go from Bayt al-Maqdis to Ma'rib in Yemen and then bring the royal throne from there, and to cover this distance of fifteen hundred miles—which, if counted both ways, becomes three thousand miles—in three or four hours. Even the strongest of humans, firstly, cannot lift such a large throne, and even if he manages to have it lifted with the help of various people or things, how can such a long journey be possible in such a short time?
39-3. That is, I can bring it and will not tamper with anything of it.
