Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 86) {وَاغْفِرْلِاَبِيْۤاِنَّهٗكَانَمِنَالضَّآلِّيْنَ :} When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was parting from his father, he promised to pray for his forgiveness (Maryam: 47), so he made this supplication. The purpose of supplication during life is that he may be granted the ability to repent, so that his sins may be forgiven, and if it is after death, then it is a prayer for the forgiveness of his shirk and other sins. However, later when he came to know that it is not correct to pray for forgiveness for a polytheist and enemy of the truth, he withdrew from this supplication, as is mentioned in Surah Tawbah: «{ فَلَمَّاتَبَيَّنَلَهٗۤاَنَّهٗعَدُوٌّلِّلّٰهِتَبَرَّاَمِنْهُ }»[ التوبۃ : ۱۱۴ ] "Then when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah, he disassociated himself from him."
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
86-1. This supplication was at a time when it was not clear to him that seeking forgiveness for a polytheist (enemy of Allah) is not permissible; when Allah made it clear, then he expressed disassociation from his father At-Tawbah:114)

86. And forgive my father, for indeed he is among the misguided [62].
[62] When his father expelled Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) from the house as a punishment for his struggle against polytheism, at that time Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) promised his father to pray for his forgiveness. [19: 47] After that, he did pray for his forgiveness as mentioned here. And once, he prayed for forgiveness for both his father and mother. [14: 41] Then, when it became clear to him that a polytheist would not be forgiven under any circumstances, he stopped making such prayers.
